*4th week in Easter Time, Saturday – 18th May 2019 — Gospel: Jn 14,7-14*
*Believers will do greater works *
The promise that Jesus makes about his disciples’ future is stunning. But before that Jesus requests his followers to believe in him. He who believes becomes one with Jesus and works wonders like Jesus himself. In that way, the believer is destined to be heroic proclaimer of God’s mercy and grace. He becomes an instrument, an extended hand, to effect God’s work on earth. Next Jesus promises that the believer does “greater works” than all that Jesus performed during his earthly ministry. For whenever the disciples ask in his name, Jesus will continue to do the works of the Father among them. The “greater works” are not calculated in terms of individual instances of miraculous power exercised by the apostles and believers, but includes the whole work of the Church. The Day of Pentecost witnessed the first fulfillment of this prophecy. It has been fulfilled every now and then in the moral and spiritual victory of the followers of Christ. Every mission field has witnessed it and continues to bear witness to it. Jesus left His kingdom as one of the smallest influences on the earth, but it has grown up as a mighty power over all the kingdoms of the world through His believers.
இயேசு தமது சீடர்களின் எதிர்காலத்தைப் பற்றிய ஆச்சரியங்களை உறுதிப்படுத்துகிறார். அதற்கு முன்னால் அவர்கள் இயேசுவில் நம்பிக்கை கொண்டிருக்க கேட்டுக் கொள்கிறார். அவரில் நம்பிக்கை கொள்வோர் இயேசுவுடன் இணைக்கப்பட்டு, இயேசுவைப் போன்று அற்புதங்களைச் செய்வார்கள். அவ்வழியில், நம்பிக்கை கொள்வோர் கடவுளின் கருணை மற்றும் அருளின் அறிவிப்பாளராய் நிர்ணயிக்கப்படுகிறார். அடுத்ததாக, இயேசு தன் வாழ்நாளில் செய்த அதிசயங்களைவிட இன்னும் அதிகமாக நம்பிக்கையாளர் செய்வார் என்ற வாக்குறுதியை அளிக்கிறார். காரணம் சீடர்கள் இயேசுவின் பெயரால் கேட்கும் பொழுது தந்தையின் செயல்களை இயேசு தொடர்ந்து செய்கிறார். இங்கு “மிகுதியான செயல்கள்” என்பது அப்போஸ்தலர்கள் மற்றும் நம்பிக்கையளார்களின் தனிப்பட்ட செயல்களாக கணக்கெடுக்கப்படுவதில்லை, மாறாக திருச்சபையின் ஒட்டுமொத்த செயல்களும் அடங்கும். இந்த தீர்க்கதரிசனத்தின் நிறைவை முதன் முதலில் பெந்தேகோஸ்தே நாளில் கண்டனர். ஒவ்வொரு காலகட்டத்திலும் ஆன்மீக மற்றும் அறநெறி வெற்றியை கிறிஸ்துவின் சீடர்கள் அடைந்த போது இது நிறைவேறியது. எல்லா மறைப்பணி துறையிலும் அது சாட்சியமளித்தது, இன்னும் அது தொடர்ந்து சாட்சியம் அளிக்கும். இப்புவியில் இயேசு தன்னுடைய இறையாட்சியை மிகச் சிறிய தாக்கங்களில் ஒன்றாக விட்டுச் சென்றார்; ஆனால் நம்பிக்கையாளர்கள் மூலம் அது வளர்ச்சி பெற்று உலகிலுள்ள எல்லா அரசுகளையும் விட வல்லமை பெற்றதாய் மாறியது .
