*Strengthening in Hatred *
Usually the farewell discourses of Jesus is full of encouragement. However the words of Jesus spoken here seems to be outwardly discouraging and hopeless. For Jesus desires to prevent the disciples from being surprised when the persecution comes, so that they will not fall away. He wants to forewarn, prepare and fortify them for the reality that is in store for the sincere followers of Jesus. The history of the early Church and the present scenario provides abundant evidence of the accuracy of Jesus’ predictions. Followers of Jesus will first be “put out”, causing social ostracism, and then the authoritarians will unleash persecution, sometimes far worse that leads to the loss of life. In response to this hatred, exclusion, persecution and even martyrdom, the Church needs the Advocate, “the Spirit of truth who comes from the Father”, to bear witness to Jesus and assure his disciples of the trustworthiness of the cause. The Trinitarian presence enlivens and keeps them from stumbling.
பொதுவாகவே இயேசுவின் பிரியாவிடை சொற்பொழிவுகள் ஊக்கமளிப்பதாய் அமைந்திருக்கும். இருப்பினும் இங்கு இயேசு கூறுகின்ற வார்த்தைகள் வெளிப்படையாகவே நம்பிக்கையற்றதாயும் ஊக்கமற்றதாயும் தோன்றுகின்றன. காரணம் இடர்பாடுகளும் துன்பங்களும் நிகழ்வதைக் கண்டு அவர்கள் ஆச்சரியப்படாமலும் வீழ்ச்சியடையாமலும் தடுத்திட இயேசு விரும்புகின்றார். உண்மை சீடர்களுக்கு காத்திருக்கும் வாழ்வு அனுபவங்களில் அவர்களை முன்னெச்சரிக்கையாகவும் தயார்படுத்துவதற்கும் பலப்படுத்துவதற்கும் விருப்பம் கொள்கின்றார். தொடக்ககால திருச்சபையின் வரலாற்றிலும் மற்றும் தற்போதைய சூழ்நிலையிலும் இயேசுவினுடைய கணிப்புகளின் துல்லியத்தினை ஏராளமான ஆதாரங்கள் உறுதிப்படுத்துகின்றன. இயேசுவைப் பின்பற்றுபவர்களை முதலில் சமூகத்திலிருந்து ஒதுக்குவார்கள், பின்னர் அதிகார வர்க்கத்தினர் துன்புறுத்துவார்கள், இதனால் வாழ்வையே இழக்கும் நிலைக்கு தள்ளப்படுவார்கள். இந்த வெறுப்பு, விலக்குதல், துன்புறுத்தல், மற்றும் மறைசாட்சியாதல் ஆகிய செயல்களை எதிர்கொள்ள திருச்சபைக்கு துணையாளராம் உண்மையின் ஆவியானவர் தேவைப்படுகின்றார். தந்தையிடமிருந்து வெளிப்படும் இந்த ஆவியானவர் இயேசுவின் சாட்சியாகவும், அவருடைய சீடர்களின் நம்பிக்கையினை உறுதிப்படுத்தும் பரிந்துயாளராகவும் இருக்கின்றார். தமதிருத்துவத்தின் உடனிருப்பு உயிரூட்டமளிப்பதாகவும் வீழ்ச்சியடைமால் தடுப்பதற்கும் உதவுகின்றது.
