In order to empower the disciples and to carry out their mission, Jesus breathes on them and says, “Receive the Holy Spirit”. Just as the Father has sent out Jesus in the power of the Holy Spirit, so now Jesus sends out his disciples in the power of that divine Spirit. Jesus who baptizes with the Spirit (Jn 1,38) now communicates his Spirit to them. The eschatological gift becomes a reality through the transforming power of Jesus. He breathes his Spirit, just as the Creator breathed life into the first human being (Gen 2,7) or Ezekiel prophesied with the “breath” to revive the dry bones of his vision (Ezek 37,9). Therefore, as representative of God on earth, Jesus now effects the creation of a new humanity in the person of the apostles. The community of disciples are then commissioned to continue this act of creation. They are empowered to forgive, heal, teach and love in the name of the Risen Christ. Until the end of times, the followers of Jesus continue to bestow on others this life-giving power of the Spirit, and exercise the forgiving ministry of the Lamb of God (Jn 1,29).
சீடர்களுக்கு அதிகாரம் அளிக்கவும் அவர்களின் பணியை நிறைவேற்றவும் இயேசு அவர்கள் மீது ஊதி “தூய ஆவியைப் பெற்றுக் கொள்ளுங்கள்” என்றார். தந்தையானவர் தூய ஆவியின் வல்லமையோடு இயேசுவை அனுப்பியது போல, இப்பொழுது இயேசு தூய ஆவியின் தெய்வீக ஆற்றலோடு தம்முடைய சீடர்களை அனுப்புகின்றார். தூய ஆவியாரோடு திருமுழுக்கு வழங்கிய இயேசு இப்போது அவருடைய ஆவியை தம் சீடர்களோடு பகிர்ந்து கொள்கிறார். இவ்வாறு நிறைவாழ்வின் கொடை இயேசுவின் மாற்றுரு சக்தியால் நடைமுறையாக்கம் பெறுகிறது. படைப்பாளர் முதல் மனிதனுக்கு உயிரோட்டம் தர ஊதியது போல, அல்லது எசேக்கியேல் உலர்ந்த எலும்புகளுக்கு “ஆவியை” ஊட்டி புத்துயிர் அளிக்கும் காட்சியை தீர்க்கதரிசனமாக உரைத்தது போன்று, இயேசுவும் தம்முடைய ஆவியை ஊதுகின்றார். எனவே இப்புவியில் கடவுளின் பிரதிநிதியான இயேசு தம்முடைய சீடர்களை புதுப்படைப்பாக உருவாக்குகிறார். சீடர்களின் குழுமத்திற்கு இந்த படைப்பு செயலை தொடர்ந்து ஆற்றிட கட்டளையிடுகின்றார். அவர்கள் உயிர்தெழுந்த கிறிஸ்துவின் பெயரால் மன்னிக்கவும், குணமளிக்கவும், போதிக்கவும் மற்றும் அன்பு செய்யவும் உறுதியூட்டப்படுகிறார்கள். இவ்வுலகம் முடியும் வரை, இயேசுவின் சீடர்கள் மற்றவர்களுக்கு வாழ்வு தரும் ஆவியின் வல்லமையை தந்து, கடவுளாம் ஆட்டுக்குட்டியின் மன்னிப்பு பணியையும் தொடர்ந்து நிறைவேற்றுவார்கள்.
