*Fulfilled in obedience *
In this passage Jesus mandates us to love Scripture and to live to keep it. Matthew thinks that it is important for the old and new people of God to know that Jesus is not anti-law or anti-Scriptural. Israel would not be able to accept a Messiah who neglects God’s gift of Torah. Jesus does not flaunt this gift, instead he lives from it and for it, as noticed in overcoming his temptations against Satan. For Jesus the law and the prophets are the written Word of God that has a binding authority. He came to fulfill it by his own deeper obedience to it and by his own deeper interpretation of it. Matthew’s use of the word “fulfill” means accomplishment of the OT by Jesus Christ (1,22; 2,15.17.33; 4,14; 8,17; 12,17; 13,35; 21,4; 26,54; 27,9), which implies doing it in totality and fullness. In this way, Jesus did fulfill the whole of Scripture for the whole of his people and for the whole of the world. Jesus’ followers, in grateful obedience to the one who has already fulfilled the law, need to reinterpret it as Jesus did in his ministry.
மறைநூலை நேசிக்கவும் அதனை வாழ்வாக்கவும் இயேசு இப்பகுதியில் நமக்கு கட்டளையிடுகிறார். கடவுளின் பழைய மற்றும் புதிய மக்களுக்கு இயேசு சட்டத்திற்கு அல்லது மறைநூலுக்கு எதிரானவரல்ல என்பதை அறிந்து கொள்வது முக்கியம் என்று மத்தேயு நற்செய்தியாளார் நினைக்கின்றார். இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் கடவுளின் கொடையான தோராவை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளாதவரை மெசியாவாக ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளமாட்டார்கள். இயேசு இக்கொடையை துறக்கவில்லை, அதற்கு பதிலாக அதனை வாழ்ந்து காட்டினார். சாத்தானின் சோதனைகளை வெல்ல அதிலிருந்து மேற்கோள் காட்டினார். இயேசுவிற்கு சட்டம் மற்றும் இறைவாக்கினர்கள் தான் கட்டுப்படுத்தும் அதிகாரத்தைக் கொண்ட கடவுளின் எழுதப்பட்ட இறைவார்த்தையாகும். அவர் தனது சொந்த கீழ்ப்படிதலாலும் அதனுடைய ஆழமான விளக்கங்கள் மூலமும் நிறைவேற்ற வந்தார். மத்தேயு “நிறைவேற்ற” என்ற வார்த்தையை பயன்படுத்துகையில் பழைய ஏற்பாட்டின் நிறைவாக இயேசு கிறிஸ்து முழுமையாக செயல்படுவதைக் குறிப்பிடுகின்றார். இவ்வாறு இயேசு முழுமறைநூலை முழு உலகத்திற்கும் முழு ஜனங்களுக்கும் நிறைவேற்றினார். அவருடைய சீடர்கள், ஏற்கனவே சட்டத்தை நிறைவேற்றினவருக்கு நன்றியோடு கீழ்ப்படிந்து, இயேசு தம் ஊழியத்தில் மறைநூலை மறுபரிசீலனை செய்தது போன்று இவர்களும் செய்ய வேண்டும்.
