*St.Thomas the Apostle, Wednesday – 3rd July 2019 — Gospel: Jn 20, 24-29*
*Transcending human weakness *
We need to appreciate and admire the humanness and faith of the apostles in Jesus, especially after his resurrection. This equanimous status was not the same in all the apostles. As we know from the Gospel, in the case of Thomas it was shattered. All the apostles knew Jesus before, saw his work, heard his words, and followed him. Yet at times, it was difficult, sometimes dangerous, but they continued to have their firm belief in him. In faith we need to make that leap, to go against common sense and our basic instincts. It seems Thomas hit a point where he couldn’t make that leap based on what the other apostles told him. Thomas needed the experience of risen Jesus to transcend his human weakness. In that personal encounter, Jesus acknowledges the humanity of the doubt by saying, “Blessed are those who have not seen and believed.” Every time we pray, every time we join in a family or community for worship we take that leap of faith. When we pray in thanksgiving or gratitude, whether we are desperate or lonely, we are making that leap. In an often broken world, when taking that leap of faith is hard, risen Jesus is there to strengthen us with his fidelity and kindness. We are encouraged by the words of St.Paul, that we are all part of a community with Jesus as the cornerstone, and in him we are being built together (Eph 2,20-21).
இயேசுவினுடைய உயிர்;ப்புக்குப் பின் அவரில் மனிதத்தன்மையையும் நம்பிக்கையையும் கொண்ட திருத்தூதர்களைப் பாராட்ட வேண்டும். இந்த சமநிலை எல்லா திருத்தூதர்களிடமும் ஒரே மாதிரியாக இருக்கவில்லை. நற்செய்தியில் அறிந்தபடி தோமையாரில் அது சிதைந்திருந்தது. இதற்கு முன்பாக திருத்தூதர்கள் அனைவரும் இயேசுவை அறிந்தும், அவருடைய பணியை கண்டும்;, அவருடைய வார்த்தைகளைக் கேட்டும், அவரைப் பின்பற்றினார்கள். ஆயினும் சில சமயங்களில் அது கடினமாகவும் ஆபத்தானதாகவும் இருந்தாலும் அவர் மீது உறுதியான நம்பிக்கையை வைத்திருந்தார்கள். இருப்பினும், சில நேரங்களில் நம்முடைய பொது அறிவு மற்றும் அடிப்படை உள்ளுணர்வுகளுக்கு எதிராகச் செல்ல வேண்டும். அப்பொழுதுதான் நாம் நம்முடைய நம்பிக்கையில் ஒருபடி முன்னேற்றம் அடைய முடியும். மற்ற திருத்தூதர்கள் சொன்னதை அடிப்படையாகக் கொண்டு தோமையாரால் அந்த முன்னேற்றத்தை அடைய முடியவில்லை. எனவே அவருடைய மனித பலவீனத்தை மீறுவதற்கு உயிர்த்த இயேசுவின் உடனடி அனுபவம் தேவையாய் இருந்தது. இயேசுவின் தனிப்பட்ட சந்திப்பில், “காணாமலே நம்புவோர் பேறுபெற்றோர்” என்ற கூற்றின் வழியாக , சந்தேகம் என்பது மனித பலவீனம் என்று இயேசு வெளிப்படையாக ஒப்புக்கொள்கிறார். ஒவ்வொரு முறையும் நாம் செபிக்கும் போது, ஒரு குடும்பத்திலோ அல்லது சமூகத்திலோ வழிபாட்டுக்காக ஒன்று கூடும்போது நாம் இந்த நம்பிக்கையில் ஒருபடி முன்னேற்றம் அடைகிறோம். நாம் நன்றியுணர்வோடு செபிக்கும்போது, நாம் அவநம்பிக்கையாகவோ அல்லது தனிமையாகவோ இருக்கும் போதும் நாம் நமது நம்பிக்கையில் முன்னேற்றம் அடைகிறோம். விரிசலடைந்த இந்த உலகில், நம்பிக்கையின் வளர்ச்சியை கண்டுணர்வது கடினம். இச்சூழலில் உயிர்த்த இயேசு அவருடைய கனிவாலும் உறுதிப்பாட்டாலும் நம்முடைய நம்பிக்கையை பலப்படுத்துகின்றார். இதனையே தூய பவுல், நாம் அனைவரும் மூலைக்கல்லாம் இயேசுவோடு இணைந்து ஒரே சமூகத்தின் அங்கமாக இருக்கிறோம், அவரோடு ஒன்றாக கட்டியமைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளோம் (எபே 2,20-21) என்ற வார்த்தைகளின் வழியாக நமக்கு ஊக்கமளிக்கிறார்.
