15th Sunday in Ordinary Time – 14th July 2019 — Gospel: Lk 10,25-37
Love leads forward, law directs away
Gospel of today prioritizes love over the law. For the law gives guiding principles, but it is love alone that leads to right action. The characters in this narrative depict our own flaws: the lawyer trying to justify himself (10,25.29), the priest and Levite too concerned with their own needs (10,31-32). The surprising hero of the story exhibits genuine love. However, Jesus makes a difference between knowledge and practice. The lawyer has the knowledge of the Scriptures and he proves this by answering Jesus. The approving response of Jesus emphasizes that this love of God and neighbor is not just an abstract feeling. Love is manifested in concrete response and so Jesus asks him to “go and do likewise” and be worthy of eternal life. It is important to talk about eternal life, transcendent life, life after death, etc. But our focus should be on what we must do while we are here on earth. The lawyer wishes to determine the minimal response to observe the law of love. The Samaritan, despised by many Jews of the day, takes great personal risk to manifest his love. He stopped to care for a person whom he has never seen before. He not only soothed the beaten man’s wounds, but also sheltered him in a care home and provided his present and future needs. Love propels us to act. If we have that love as catalyst then we’ll be guaranteed of an adventurous, positive, and joyful life here and now.
இன்றைய நற்செய்தி சட்டத்திற்கு முன் அன்புக்கு முன்னுரிமை அளிக்கிறது. சட்டம் வழிகாட்டும் கொள்கைகளை தருகின்றது. ஆனால் அன்பு மட்டுமே சரியான செயலாக்கத்திற்கு வழிவகுக்கும். இப்பகுதியில் விவரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ள கதாபாத்திரங்கள் நம்முடைய சொந்த குறைபாடுகளை சித்தரிக்கின்றன. சட்ட அறிஞர் தன்னை நியாயப்படுத்த முயற்சிக்கின்றார். குருவும் லேவியரும் தங்களுடைய சொந்த தேவைகளில் அக்கறை கொண்டுள்ளனர். ஆச்சரியப்படுத்தும் கதையின் கதாநாயகன் உண்மையான அன்பை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். இருப்பினும் இயேசு அறிவுக்கும் நடைமுறைக்கும் இடையில் உள்ள வித்தியாசத்தை இங்கு வெளிக்கொணர்கின்றார். சட்ட அறிஞருக்கு மறைநூலைப் பற்றிய அறிவு நிறைய இருக்கிறது. அவர் இயேசுவுக்கு உரிய பதிலளித்தன் மூலம் இதனை நிரூபிக்கின்றார். ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளும் இயேசுவின் பதில், கடவுள் மற்றும் அடுத்திருப்பவர் மேல் கொள்ளும் அன்பு கற்பனையான உணர்வு அல்ல என்று வலியுறுத்துகின்றார். அன்பு உறுதியான பதிலில் வெளிப்படுகின்றது; எனவே இயேசு அவரிடம் “நீரும் போய் அப்படியே செய்யும்” அதனால் நிலைவாழ்வு அடைய தகுதியுடையவராவீர் என்று கூறுகின்றார். முடிவில்லா வாழ்வு, மரணத்திற்குப்பின் வாழ்வு, நித்திய வாழ்வு போன்றவை பற்றிப் பேசுவது முக்கியம் தான்; ஆனால் இப்புவியில் வாழும் போது நாம் என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என்பதில் நம் கவனம் இருக்க வேண்டும். சட்ட அறிஞர் அன்பின் சட்டத்தைக் கடைப்பிடிக்க குறைந்த பட்ச பதிலை தர விரும்புகின்றார். அன்றைய யூதர்கள் பலரால் வெறுக்கப்பட்ட சமாரியன், பல ஆபத்துக்களை எதிர்கொண்டு தன் தனிப்பட்ட அன்பை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். இதுவரை தம் வாழ்வில் சந்தித்திராத ஓரு மனிதருக்காக நேரம் ஒதுக்கி தம் அக்கறையை வெளிப்படுத்துகின்றார். காயப்பட்டவரின் புண்களுக்கு மருந்து மட்டுமல்ல, அவருக்கு அடைக்கலம் கொடுக்க அவரை ஒரு பராமரிப்பு இல்லத்தில் சேர்த்து, அவரின் தற்போதைய மற்றும் எதிர்காலத் தேவைகளை நிறைவு செய்கின்றார். அன்பு செயலாக்கத்திற்கு தூண்டுதலாய் இருக்கின்றது. அந்த அன்பை நம்முடைய கிரியாயூக்கியாக கொண்டிருந்தால், இங்கே, இப்பொழுதே நமக்கு ஒரு நேர்மறையான, துணிவுகரமான மற்றும் மகிழ்ச்சியான வாழ்க்கை வசப்படும்.
