Come back to the Lord
Wherever Jesus went, he preached repentance and did mighty works to reveal God’s love for his people. Here Jesus admonishes the three cities, Chorazin, Bethsaida and Capernaum, in which he had ministered. These cities did not believe in his message, miracles and wondrous deeds and they did nothing to return back to the Lord. Jesus contrasts these unrepentant Jewish villages in Galilee with three Gentile cities known for their wickedness and for severe judgments from God. He suggests that Tyre, Sidon and even notorious Sodom would have repented had they seen the powerful messianic works of Jesus. These cities outside of Israel were corrupted by their idolatry, whereas the villages of Galilee received the sustained ministry of God’s Messiah. The loving invitation of the Messiah to repent and to return to the Lord reechoes the voice of the prophets to the Israelites to renew their covenant with the Lord (Amos 4,6-11; Hos 7,10-16; 14,1). Jesus’ warning to the three Jewish villages suggests that they were more cynical and hard hearted to the miracles and teachings of the Messiah. These admonitions recommend that the more one has been given by God, the more one is accountable before God.
எங்கு சென்றாலும் இயேசு மனந்திரும்புதலைப் போதித்தார். மேலும் கடவுளின் அன்பை தம் மக்கள்மீது வெளிப்படுத்த வல்ல செயல்களைச் செய்தார். இங்கு தாம் பணி செய்து வந்த கொராசின், பெத்சாய்தா, கப்பர்நகூம் ஆகிய மூன்று நகரங்களைக் கடிந்து கொள்கின்றார். இந்நகரங்கள் அவருடைய நற்செய்தியை, அற்புதங்களை மற்றும் அதிசயங்களை ஏற்றுக் கொள்ளவில்லை. மேலும் அவர்கள் இறைவனிடம் மனம்திரும்பி வருவதற்கு எதுவும் செய்யவில்லை. கலிலேயாவில் மனந்திரும்பாமல் உள்ள யூத கிராமங்களை இயேசு மூன்று பிற இன நகரங்களுடன் ஒப்பிடுகின்றார். தங்களுடைய தீய செயல்களுக்கும் கடவுளிடமிருந்து பெற்ற கடுமையான தீர்ப்புகளுக்கும் அவர்கள் பெயர் பெற்றவர்கள். இயேசு மெசியாவின் வல்ல செயல்களை தீர், சீதோன், மற்றும் மிகவும் மோசமான சோதோம் நகரங்கள் கண்டிருந்தால் அவர்கள் மனந்திரும்பியிருப்பார்கள் என்று ஒப்பிடுகின்றார். இஸ்ரயேலுக்கு வெளியே உள்ள இந்நகரங்கள் தங்களின் சிலைவழிபாட்டால் சிதைக்கப்பட்டன. அதேசமயம் கலிலேயா பகுதியில் உள்ள கிராமங்கள் கடவுள் மெசியாவின் மீட்புப் பணியை தொடர்ச்சியாகப் பெற்று வந்தன. மெசியாவின் அன்பு அழைப்பான மனந்திரும்புதலும், ஆண்டவரிடம் திரும்பி வருதலும் இறைவாக்கினர்களின் குரலை எதிரொலிக்கின்றன. இவ்வழைப்பு இஸ்ரயேல் மக்கள் ஆண்டவரிடம் உடன்படிக்கையை புதுப்பிப்பதை நினைவு கூறுகின்றது. மூன்று யூத கிராமங்களுக்கான இயேசுவின் எச்சரிக்கை, மெசியாவின் அற்புதங்களையும் போதனைகளையும் கண்ட கடின இதயம் கொண்டவர்கள் இழிவுபடுத்துவதை எடுத்துக் கூறுகிறது. இக்கண்டிப்புகள் கடவுளுடைய ஆசிரை அதிகமாகப் பெற்றவர்கள் கடவுளுக்கு முன் இன்னும் அதிக கணக்குப் பொறுப்பைத் தர வேண்டும் என்றும் பரிந்துரைக்கின்றன.
