Joy is the engine of sacrifice
The parables of the treasure in the field and the valuable pearl convey the fact that God’s kingdom is more valuable and to attain that one must take greatest risk. Both the treasure and the pearl are OT symbols for wisdom (Job 28,18; Prov 4,8). The treasure is found unexpectedly by the poor farm-tiller on another’s land. The pearl is discovered after a diligent search by the well-to-do businessman. In both cases they sell all that they have immediately and secretly, to attain the precious discovery. However, the emphasis is not on how much one has to give up, but on the joy that comes from their investment and complement. The genuine disciples respond joyfully to the discovery of the kingdom with total commitment. Joy is the engine of change and of sacrifice. Because of the surpassing value of the treasure in each case, selling was no sacrifice; it was a smart business, it was a joy. Neither the farmer nor the businessman lost a thing – both made huge gains. The joy of the discovery of Jesus Christ in whom are hidden, “all the treasures of wisdom and knowledge” (Col 2,3) has moved men and women of all age into large and life-changing decisions. It is by telling people of God’s treasures that people sell or sacrifice what is necessary for the costly but joyous acquisition.
நிலத்தில் மறைந்துள்ள புதையல் மற்றும் விலையுயர்ந்த முத்து, இவ்விரு உவமைகளின் வழியே விண்ணரசு மிகவும் மதிப்புமிக்கது என்பதையும், அதை அடைவதற்கு ஒருவர் மிகப்பெரிய சவாலை எதிர்கொள்ள வேண்டும் என்பதையும் வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது. புதையல் மற்றும் முத்து இவ்விரண்டும் ஞானத்திற்கான பழைய ஏற்பாட்டு அடையாளங்களாகும். ஏழை விவசாயி அடுத்தவரின் நிலத்தை பண்படுத்தும் போது எதிர்பாராத விதமாக புதையலை கண்டுபிடித்தார். பணக்கார தொழிலதிபர் விடாமுயற்சியுடன் தேடிய பிறகு முத்து கண்டுபிடிக்கப்படுகிறது. இவ்விரண்டு சந்தர்ப்பங்களிலும் அவர்கள் தங்களிடம் உள்ள அனைத்தையும் உடனடியாகவும் இரகசியமாகவும் விற்று விலைமதிப்பற்ற பொருளை பெற்றுக் கொள்கிறார்கள். இருப்பினும், ஒருவர் எவ்வளவு இழக்கிறார் என்பதல்ல; மாறாக அவரின் முதலீடு மற்றும் பொருளாதாரத்தினால் கிடைக்கும் மகிழ்ச்சிக்கு முக்கியத்துவம் கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. உண்மை சீடர்கள் முழுஅர்ப்பணத்துடன் விண்ணரசை கண்டுபிடித்ததற்கு மகிழ்ச்சியுடன் பதிலளிக்கிறார்கள். மகிழ்ச்சி என்பது மாற்றம் மற்றும் தியாகத்தின் கருவியாக செயல்படுகிறது. விலைமதிப்புள்ள புதையலினால், அவர் எல்லாவற்றையும் விற்றது தியாகமல்ல. அது மகிழ்ச்சியை தரும் ஒரு புத்திசாலியான வணிகமாகும். விவசாயியோ, தொழிலதிபரோ எதையும் இழக்கவில்லை, மாறாக இருவரும் பெரும் இலாபத்தை ஈட்டிக் கொண்டனர். இவ்வுலக வரலாற்றில் “ஞானமும் அறிவுமாகிய செல்வங்கள் மறைந்துள்ள” இயேசு கிறிஸ்துவை கண்டுபிடித்த எல்லா ஆண்களும் பெண்களும் பெற்ற மகிழ்ச்சி, அவர்களுடைய வாழ்க்கையும், சில முடிவுகளையும் மாற்றியமைத்தது. கடவுளின் மதிப்புமிக்க புதையலை மக்களுக்கு எடுத்துச் சொல்வதன் மூலமே, அவர்கள் மேன்மையான மகிழ்ச்சிக்காக தியாகம் செய்யவோ அல்லது தம்மிடம் இருப்பதை விற்கவோ முன் வருவார்கள்.
