Need for one’s own perfection
Jesus continues to teach his followers about the cost of discipleship. Jesus’ conversation with the wealthy young man is evocative of Mic 6,6-8, in which God’s people ask three questions about God’s requirement of them. The three requirements that are “good” for his people are: “to do justice, to love kindness, and to walk humbly with your God.” Here the young man asks three questions to Jesus, each of which is followed by Jesus’ response, leading him to a fuller understanding of what God requires of him. To the first question about what “good” deed he must do to have eternal life, Jesus responds by shifting the man’s focus from his own goodness to God’s goodness. To his second question concerning which commandments to obey, Jesus lists five of the Ten Commandments from Mount Sinai and the command to “love your neighbour as yourself” from Lev 19,18. To his third question concerning his incompleteness, Jesus’ exhorts him to be perfect in his response to God. As Jesus tells the young man to sell his possessions, give them to the poor, and then follow him, he is attempting to move the man to the level of genuine discipleship. In this way, Jesus directs the young man towards his own specific needs and towards his own perfection.
சீடத்துவத்தின் சவால்களைப் பற்றி இயேசு தம் சீடர்களுக்கு தொடர்ந்து கற்பிக்கின்றார். செல்வரான இளைஞர் இயேசுவிடம் மேற்கொண்ட உரையாடல் மீக்கா 6,6-8னை நினைவிற்கு கொண்டு வருகிறது. அதில் கடவுளின் மக்கள், கடவுளின் எதிர்பார்ப்பு குறித்து மூன்று கேள்விகளைக் கேட்கிறார்கள். அவர்களுக்கு மூன்று தேவைகளை, அதாவது “நேர்மையைக் கடைப்பிடித்தலையும், இரக்கம் கொள்வதில் நாட்டத்தையும், கடவுளுக்கு முன்பாக தாழ்ச்சியோடு நடந்து கொள்வதையும்” கூறி இவையே “நல்லது” என்று முன்மொழிகிறார். இங்கும் அந்த இளைஞன் இயேசுவிடம் மூன்று கேள்விகளைக் கேட்கிறான். ஒவ்வொன்றுக்கும் இயேசு பதில் அளிக்கிறார். இப்பதில்களின் வழியாக கடவுள் அவரிடம் என்ன விரும்புகிறார் என்பதைப் பற்றிய முழுமையான புரிதலுக்கு இயேசு அவரை இட்டுச் செல்கின்றார். நிலைவாழ்வைப் பெற “நல்லது” என்ன செய்ய வேண்டும் என்ற முதல் கேள்விக்கு, அவரது கவனத்தை தனது சொந்த நலனிலிருந்து கடவுளின் நன்மைதனத்திற்கு மாற்ற வேண்டும் என்று பதிலளிக்கிறார். எந்த கட்டளைகளுக்குக் கீழ்ப்படிய வேண்டும் என்ற அவருடைய இரண்டாவது கேள்விக்கு, சீனாய் மலையிலிருந்து கிடைத்த பத்து கட்டளைகளில் ஐந்தையும், லேவி 19,18 ல் உள்ள “உன்மீது நீ அன்புகூர்வது போல் உனக்கு அடுத்திருப்பவர் மீதும் அன்பு கூர்வாயாக” என்ற கட்டளையையும் இயேசு பட்டியலிடுகிறார்;. அவருடைய முழுமையற்ற தன்மை பற்றிய மூன்றாவது கேள்விக்கு, கடவுளுக்கு அவர் அளிக்கும் பதிலில் நிறைவுள்ளராக இருக்கும்படி இயேசு அறிவுறுத்துகிறார். இயேசு அந்த இளைஞனிடம் தனது உடைமைகளை விற்கவும், அவற்றை ஏழைகளுக்குக் கொடுக்கவும், பின்னர் அவரைப் பின்பற்றவும் சொல்லும்போது, அவர் அந்த இளைஞனை உண்மையான சீடத்துவ நிலைக்கு அழைக்க முயற்சிக்கிறார். இவ்வாறு இயேசு அந்த இளைஞனை அவனுடைய சொந்த தேவையை நோக்கியும் மற்றும் அவனுடைய முழுமையை நோக்கியும் வழிநடத்துகிறார்.
