Jesus’ prior association with Peter
The healing of Peter’s mother-in-law is recorded in all the synoptic Gospels (Mt 8,14-15; Mk 1,31; Lk 4,38-39) with slight variations. According to Mark and Luke, this is the first healing that takes place in the house. Only in Luke’s gospel the healing occurs at the beginning of Jesus’ public ministry, and right before the call of the first apostles. What is the significance of Peter’s mother-in-law in Jesus’ healing campaign? And why she is placed first? Why does the evangelist pull her from anonymity when countless others who are healed by Jesus go unmentioned? Why she is described in terms of her relation to Peter? Could this episode help us in trying to understand the development of Peter’s relationship with Jesus? It is significant that, at the beginning of the synoptic gospels, Jesus is associated with possessions of Peter, his house (Lk 4,38) and boat (Lk 5,3). Only later in these gospels Jesus is portrayed in a fuller relationship with Peter himself. Jesus’ association with Peter prior to his calling signals that Jesus was in good rapport with Peter before all others. This helps us to understand that Jesus’ primary association caused him to move immediately from the synagogue to Peter’s house in order to perform a healing for his mother-in-law. Some scholars draw conclusion to Jesus’ use of Peter’s property saying it foreshadows the story of Peter’s primacy among the apostles.
பேதுருவின் மாமியாரைக் குணப்படுத்துவது அனைத்து ஒத்தமை நற்செய்திகளிலும் (மத் 8,14-15; மாற் 1,31; லூக் 4,38-39) சிறு வேறுபாடுகளுடன் பதிவு செய்யப்பட்டுள்ளது. மாற்கு மற்றும் லூக்காவின் கூற்றுப்படி வீட்டில் நடைபெறும் முதல் குணமளிக்கும் நிகழ்வு இது. லூக்காவின் நற்செய்தியில் மட்டும் இக்குணமளிக்கும் நிகழ்வு இயேசுவின் பணிவாழ்வு தொடக்கத்திலும், முதல் அப்போஸ்தலர்களின் அழைப்புக்கு முன்பாகவும் இடம் பெறுவதாக வர்ணிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. இயேசுவின் குணப்படுத்தும் நிகழ்வுகளில் பேதுரு மாமியாரின் முக்கியத்துவம் என்ன? முதன்மைத்துவம் ஏன்? இயேசுவால் எண்ணற்றோர் குணமடைந்திருந்தும் மற்றவர்களை குறிப்பிடாமல், பெயரில்லாத இவரை ஏன் நற்செய்தியாளர் இங்கு மையப்படுத்துகிறார்? பேதுருவின் உறவு அடிப்படையில் அவள் ஏன் விவரிக்கப்படுகிறாள்? பேதுரு இயேசுவுடன் கொண்டிருந்த உறவுநிலை வளர்ச்சியைப் புரிந்துகொள்ள இப்பகுதி நமக்கு உதவ முடியுமா? ஓத்தமை நற்செய்திகளின் தொடக்கத்தில் இயேசு பேதுருவினுடைய வீடு (லூக் 4,38) மற்றும் படகு (லூக் 5,3) ஆகியவற்றை பயன்படுத்தியுள்ளார் என்பது குறிப்பிடத்தக்கது. இந்நற்செய்திகளின் பிற்பகுதியில் இயேசு பேதுருவிடம் கொண்டிருந்த தனிப்பட்ட உறவுநிலையோடு சித்தரிக்கப்பட்டுள்ளார். இயேசு பேதுருவை அழைப்பதற்கு முன்பாக அவருடன் ஏற்படுத்தியிருந்த தொடர்பு, மற்ற அனைவருக்கும் முன்பாகவே பேதுருவுடன் இயேசு நல்லுறவைக் கொண்டிருந்தார் என்பதைக் தெளிவாக்குகிறது. இந்த உறவுநிலை புரிதலால் இயேசு தொழுகைக்கூடத்திலிருந்து நேரடியாக பேதுருவின் வீட்டிற்குச் சென்று அவருடைய மாமியாரைக் குணப்படுத்தினார் என்று புரிந்து கொள்கிறோம். பேதுருவின் சொத்துக்களை இயேசு பயன்படுத்தியது குறித்து சில அறிஞர்கள் அப்போஸ்தலர்களிடையே உருவான பேதுருவின் தலைமைத்துவத்தை இந்நிகழ்வு முன்னறிவிப்பதாக கூறுகிறார்கள்.
