Reconstitution on the Mountain
The evangelist Luke depicts, first Jesus to ascent on ‘the mountain’ for the appointment of the Twelve as apostles, and then to descent to the crowds gathered for healing. These crowds together with disciples provide the audience for the corresponding ‘Sermon on the Plain’ (6,17-49) that follows. The specification of ‘the mountain’ here is theological rather than topographical. Jesus, like Moses (Ex 33,12-34,28), has been on the mountain in prayer with God (6,12). Moses was commanded not to take anyone with him (Ex 34,3). Jesus, on the contrary, summoned the twelve to be with him there. They are to be his ‘apostles’, so they must first share with him, his communion with God. The mountain denotes the ‘new Sinai’, where Israel begins to be reconstituted and new commandments are uttered. Just as Moses brought down from the mountain the revelation which he had received from God, now Jesus with his apostles brings down the new law, the new covenant, and the new word. These things he brings from God to ‘a great crowd of his disciples and a great multitude of people’ who are eagerly waiting to touch him and to hear his healing word.
நற்செய்தியாளர் லூக்கா முதலில் இயேசு பன்னிரெண்டு பேரை திருத்தூதர்களாக நியமிக்க மலைக்கு ஏறிச் சென்றார் என்றும், பின்னர் கூடியிருந்த கூட்டத்தினருக்கு நலமளிக்க இறங்கி வந்தார் என்றும் சித்தரிக்கிறார். வரவிருக்கும் “சமவெளி போதனையின்” (6,17-49) பார்வையாளர்களாக சீடர்களுடன் இக்கூட்டமும் இணைந்துள்ளது. இங்கு குறிப்பிடப்பட்டுள்ள “மலை” நிலப்பரப்பைக் காட்டிலும் இறையியலை விவரிக்கின்றது. மலையில் மோசேயைப் போலவே (விப 33,12-34,29) இயேசுவும் கடவுளோடு செபத்தில் (6,12) இணைந்திருந்தார். யாரையும் தன்னுடன் அழைத்துச் செல்ல வேண்டாம் என்று மோசேவுக்கு கட்டளையிடப்பட்டது (விப 34,3). மாறாக, இயேசு அங்கே தன்னுடன் இருக்க பன்னிரெண்டு பேரை அழைத்துக் கொண்டார். அவர்கள் அவருடைய “திருத்தூதர்களாக” இருக்க வேண்டும். அதாவது முதலில் கடவுளுடன் இணைந்திருக்கும் இயேசுவின் நிலையை அவர்கள் பகிர்ந்து கொள்ள வேண்டும். இந்த மலை “புதிய சீனாய்” என்பதைக் குறிக்கின்றது. அங்கு இஸ்ரயேலருக்கு மறுசீரமைப்பை தொடங்குகிறது மற்றும் புதிய கட்டளைகளை எடுத்துரைக்கின்றது. கடவுளிடமிருந்து பெற்ற வெளிப்பாட்டை மோசே மலையிலிருந்து கீழே கொணர்ந்தது போல, இப்போது இயேசு தம்முடைய திருத்தூதர்களோடு புதிய சட்டத்தையும், புதிய உடன்படிக்கையையும், புதிய இறைவார்த்தையும் கொண்டு வருகிறார். இச்செயல்களை அவர் கடவுளிடமிருந்து “அவருடைய சீடர்களாய் திகழும் பெரிய கூட்டத்திற்கும் மற்றும் ஏராளமான மக்களுக்கும்” கொண்டு வருகிறார். இவர்களே அவரைத் தொடுவதற்கும் அவருடைய நலமளிக்கும் வார்த்தையைக் கேட்கவும் ஆவலுடன் காத்திருக்கின்றவர்கள்.
