28th Week in Ord. Time, Monday – 14th October 2019 — Gospel: Lk 11,29-32
Sign of Word and Wisdom
Just as Jonah was a sign to the people of Nineveh because he preached God’s word to them, Jesus is a sign to the present generation because he proclaims the Word of God to them. Likewise, the Queen of Sheba travelled to King Solomon to hear God’s wisdom spoken from him. The people of Nineveh responded with repentance to the word spoken by Jonah (Jon 3,5), and the queen responded with praise to the God of Israel for the wisdom spoken through Solomon (1 Kgs 10,9). These Gentiles have responded so favourably to Jonah and Solomon. They show themselves more receptive to God’s revelation than the present Israelites. Jesus is the greatest revelation of God’s word and wisdom on earth. He is the ultimate sign of God’s unconditional love. Therefore, the present generation is expected to respond to the word and wisdom of God spoken through Jesus his Son. When we encounter this sign, we always try to remind ourselves that not only is His participation in our humanity the greatest sign thinkable, His death on the cross was the greatest action of love conceivable.
கடவுளுடைய வார்த்தையை நினிவே மக்களுக்கு போதித்ததால், யோனா ஒர் அடையாளமாய் திகழ்ந்தார். அது போல, தற்போதைய தலைமுறையினருக்கு கடவுளுடைய வார்த்தையை அறிவித்ததால், இயேசு அவர்களுக்கு ஓர் அடையாளமாகத் திகழ்கிறார். இதே போல், இளவரசி சேபா கடவுளின் ஞானத்தைக் கேட்க சாலமோன் அரசனைத் தேடி பயணம் செய்தார். இவ்வாறு நினிவே மக்கள் யோனா அறிவித்த வார்த்தைக்கு மனந்திரும்புதலுடன் பதிலளித்தனர் (யோனா 3,5). அரசன் சாலமோன் மூலம் வெளிப்படுத்தப்பட்ட ஞானத்திற்கு இளவரசி இஸ்ரயேலின் கடவுளைப் புகழ்ந்து பதிலளித்தார் (1அர 10,9). இவ்விரு புறஇனத்தாரும் யோனாவிற்கும் சாலமோனுக்கும் மிகச் சாதகமாக பதிலளித்துள்ளனர். தற்போதைய இஸ்ரயேலரை விட அவர்கள் கடவுளின் வெளிப்பாட்டை முழுமையாக ஏற்றுக் கொண்டார்கள். இப்புவியில் கடவுளின் வார்த்தை மற்றும் ஞானத்தின் மிகப் பெரிய வெளிப்பாடு இயேசுவே. அவரே கடவுளின் நிபந்தனையற்ற அன்பின் இறுதி அடையாளம். ஆகையால், கடவுளின் மகனாம் இயேசுவின் மூலம் அறிவிக்கப்படும் இறைவார்த்தைக்கும் ஞானத்திற்கும் தற்போதைய தலைமுறையினரிடமிருந்து பதில்மொழி எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது. இந்த அடையாளத்தை நாம் சந்திக்கும் போது, நம்முடைய மனித குலத்தில் அவர் பங்கேற்றது சிந்திக்கத்தக்க மிகப்பெரிய அடையாளம் மட்டுமல்ல, சிலுவையில் அவர் இறந்தது அன்பின் மிகப்பெரிய செயல் வடிவமாகும்.
