Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 20: 24-29

Thomas had only one request to make and that request, if fulfilled, would him believe in the resurrection of Jesus. He was willing to accept the resurrection if he was permitted to see the wounds of Jesus. He wanted to see whether it was the same Jesus who was crucified. For Thomas the wounds of Jesus were the proof for his resurrection. Wounds linked the Jesus on earth and the Jesus after resurrection. Wounds are the signs.

Once Thomas receives what he wanted he had nothing other than to confess his faith. Confession of his faith was so strong and so full that it was the sum total of all that one needed to believe. He said: “My Lord and My God”. This summed up all the elements of belief: Jesus’ humanity, his divinity, his suffering and death, his messiahship, his resurrection etc.

தோமாவின் நம்பிக்கையின் வெளிப்பாடு;: ‘நீரே என் ஆண்டவர்! நீரே என் கடவுள்!”. இதில் தோமாவின் நம்பிக்கையின் எல்லா கூறுகளும் அடங்கியிருந்தன: அவருடைய துன்பங்கள்> பாடுகள்> இறப்பு> மனிதம்> இறைமை> உயிர்ப்பு… இயேசுவைப் பற்றிய தோமாவின் விசுவாவம் அவருடைய கூற்றில் (நீரே என் ஆண்டவர்! நீரே என் கடவுள்!) முழுமையாக அடங்கியுள்ளது. காயங்கள்தான் உயிர்ப்புக்கு சாட்ச்சியாக> உயிர்ப்பின் அடையாளங்களாக திகழ்கின்றன.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 9:1-8

Faith is a necessary requirement for miracles. However the one to be healed need not have the faith at all. Faith of the people who are around the sick person is sufficient to work miracles. We read in this passage thus: When Jesus saw their faith, he said to the paralytic,…

When the crowd saw the miracle they glorified God. This is what a miracle should lead one to do: glorify God. Miracle begins with faith in God and ends with glorifying God. The miracle workers or the people who see miracles are those who have faith in God and constantly glorify God.

கடவுள் மேல் நம்பிக்கை வைத்தல் கடவுளைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்தல் இவை இரண்டும் இருக்கும் இடத்தில் புதுமைகள் நிகழும். நம்பிக்கைதான் புதுமையின் துவக்கம். இறைவனை முன்வைத்தல் இறைவனுக்கு முதன்மைத்துவம் கொடுத்தல் வழியாக நம்பிக்கை வெளிப்படுத்தப்படுகிறது. புதுமை நிகழும் இடத்தில் நம்பிக்கை உள்ளவன் இறைவனைப் போற்றிப் புகழ்கிறான்.
