Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 16:13-19

People have different views about Jesus. And their views were based on their experience of Jesus. They always compared their views to some of the Old Testament prophets. Their views were totally biblically based (they spoke of only Jeremiah, Elijah, John the Baptist or one of the prophets).

Peter’s reply was based on a revelation. But this revelation was not from flesh and blood (humanly or earthly experience). The revelation that Peter had, was divinely /heavenly and hence we can say: non-experiential. This revelation was from the Father. This revelation makes Peter blessed and the foundation of the Church. Revelation, acceptance of revelation and proclamation of revelation is important in the kingdom.

மக்கள் தங்கள் அனுபவத்தை (இயேசு) முந்தைய அனுபவங்களோடு ஒப்பிட்டு இயேசுவை திரு முழுக்கு யோவான் என்றும் எரேமியா என்றும் கூறுகிறார்கள். இது அனுபவம் சார்ந்த அறிவு. பேதுருவுக்கு வெளிப்பாட்டில் இயேசுவைப்பற்றிய அறிவு கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. வெளிப்பாட்டில நிறை அறிவு உள்ளது. அதுவே பேதுருவை இறையாட்சியில் பணிக்கிறது.

GOSPEL READING: MARK 5:21-43

Jairus, the synagogue official came to Jesus and asked him to come and heal her daughter because she was at the point of death. Surely he had faith in God and in Jesus and that was why he came and pleaded. (Faith was not expressed openly at this point). The woman afflicted with haemorrhages for twelve years had faith in Jesus and that is the reason she came and touched his clothes. (Faith was not expressed openly at this point).

Jesus recognized the faith of these two people though they did not express it openly and directly. Jesus recognized the faith and that is why he told the woman: “Daughter, your faith has saved you. Go in peace and be cured of your affliction.” In the same way Jesus recognized the faith of Jairus and Jesus was aware that the news that was brought about his daughter was making him worry and hence Jesus said: “Do not be afraid; just have faith.” Faith is what matters.

குணமளிக்கும் புதுமைகளுக்கு நம்பிக்கை அடித்தளமாக இருக்கிறது. நம்பிக்கை வெளிப்படையாக வெளிப்படத்தப்படவில்லை. அவர்களின் மனதில் இருந்த நம்பிக்கையை இயேசு இனம்கண்டு கொள்கிறார். ஆகவேதான் அவர் சொல்லுகிறார் அந்த பெண்ணிடம்;: ‘மகளே> உனது நம்பிக்கை உன்னைக் குணமாக்கிற்று. அமைதியுடன் போ. நீ நோய் நீங்கி நலமாயிரு” என்று. அதேபோல் தொழுகைக்கூடத் தலைவரான யாயிர் என்பவரிடம் இயேசு கூறுகிறார்: ‘அஞ்சாதீர்> நம்பிக்கையை மட்டும் விடாதீர்”. நம்பிக்கையே எல்லாம்.
