Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 20:1-2.11-18

Mary stayed outside the tomb weeping.

According to the gospel of John, Mary of Magdala showed herself first at the tomb. She was waiting for the Sabbath to be over. She rushed to the tomb first. It was shocking for her to see the tomb empty and stone at the entrance rolled. She expected to see everything intact as she left had left the tomb at the beginning of Sabbath.

On the first day of the week she came to the tomb twice. First she came and saw the tomb empty and ran to inform the disciples. Then she came again with the disciples but she stayed on after the disciples had left. Her desire along with determination and her physical staying at the tomb made her the first witness of the resurrection.

மரியா கல்லறைக்கு வெளியே நின்று அழுதுகொண்டிருந்தார்.

மரியா இரண்டு முறை கல்லறைக்கு வருகிறாள். முதல்முறை வந்து கல்லறை வெறுமையாய் இருப்பதைக்கண்டு சீடர்களிடம் சென்று கூறுகிறாள். மீண்டும் வந்து கல்லறைக்கு வெளியே நின்று அழுதுகொண்டிருந்தார். இயேசுவை காணவேண்டும் என்ற விருப்பம்> அவளுடைய ஆர்வம்> விடாமுயற்சி போன்றவை அவளுக்கு உயிர்த்த இயேசு அனுபவம் கொடுத்தது.

Tell her to help me.

Mary sat at the feet of Jesus which denotes a close attention. Her mind was composed and she resolved to catch every word that Jesus delivered. (Like Paul was brought up at the feet of Gamaliel). Martha was not sitting at the feet and hence she was not composed or resolved to listen because she was distracted. Sitting and running around is equal to being attentive and distracted.

The disproportionate attention to worldly cares and pursuits is often the occasion of disturbance in families and of strife and contention among relations. Worldly business is a snare to us when it hinders us from serving God and getting good to our souls. Inordinate care or trouble about many things in this world is a common fault among Christ’s disciples; it is very displeasing to Christ, and that for which they often come under the rebukes of God.

எனக்கு உதவி புரியும்படி அவளிடம் சொல்லும்.

இயேசுவின் காலடியில் அமர்ந்திருப்பது அவரோடு கொண்டுள்ள நெருக்கத்தையும், ஆர்வத்தையும், ஈடுபாட்டையும் காட்டுகிறது. பணிகள் புரிவதில் பரபரப்பாய் இருப்பது கவலைப்படுவதை குறிக்கிறது. உலகு சார்ந்த கவலைகள் இறைவனிடமிருந்து நம்மை பிரிக்கிறது அதேபோல் உறவுகளிமிருந்தும் பிரிக்கிறது (சகோதரிமேல் கோபம், வெறுப்பு).
