GOSPEL READING: JOHN 8:31-42

If God were your Father, you would love me, for I came from God and am here; I did not come on my own, but he sent me.
————————————-
The dispute between Jesus and the Jews is who the Father is. The Jews claim Abraham to be their father. But Jesus condemns them for their actions which were in line with that of Abraham. Abraham was a man of faith and his actions proved that he believed in God and truth. Though they believed in Abraham to be their father in fact he was not.

Jesus had God as his father. All what he said and did were in line with that of God and all what proceeded from him was truth. Truth also set him free. Freedom and truth are the two signs of a person who had God as his Father. Abraham was following the directions of God. And anyone who had Abraham as his father will also do the works of Abraham (Faith). Those who have their earthly fathers will be slaves to sin.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 1:16,18-21,24a

Joseph her husband, since he was a righteous man,…
———————————-
Mystery of Jesus’ incarnation should be adored and not pried into. Because it was the will of the Father and work of the Holy Spirit that made incarnation a reality. Trinity is in action. It is like the work of creation. Man is not even a witness to the work of creation. He is only an admirer and adorer.

The decision (intention) of Joseph was justifiable because he was thinking in terms of Mary, the woman. When Joseph was invited to see the events in God’s perspective he could only oblige. When Joseph realized that it was the fulfillment of the scriptures he could do nothing but oblige. Joseph was in sleep when he was thinking in human terms; but he was awake when he started to see things and accept things in God’s perspective.
