Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 10:1-10

I am the gate for the sheep.

Jesus speaks of gate in reference to sheep. Sheep are protected when they are within the gate. Within the gate there is safety and security and protection and the presence of the shepherd. In fact one of the roles of the shepherd is to be the gate. Entry through the gate also leads to salvation and there is help to find pasture.

Gate is also a reference point for those who enter the sheepfold. It is gate that differentiates the shepherd from the thief. Thief always avoids the gate. (Anyone who reaches the people without regard for Jesus is a thief. He comes only for his personal satisfaction). All those who reach the people with Jesus; for Jesus and in Jesus is the shepherd.

ஆடுகளுக்கு வாயில் நானே.

ஆடுகளுக்கு வாயிலாக இருக்கும் இயேசு அவைகளை பாதுகாக்கிறார் அவைகளை பத்திரமாக பேணிக்காக்கிறார்@ மேய்ச்சல் நிலத்துக்கு அழைத்துச் செல்வார். ஆவரைத் தவிர்த்து வருபவர்கள் திருடர்கள். மக்களுக்கு வழி இயேசு ஒருவர்தான்.

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 10:27-30

I know them, and they follow me.

The rapport between God and the people of Israel is presented in the form of relationships. The relationships were as follows: father – son; husband – wife; king – people; and sheep – shepherd. The sheep – shepherd relationship is something special in the bible.

The people of Israel were basically shepherds and their life was centered around sheep. In fact, they altered their life according to the need of the sheep. Sheep were part of their existence. When Jesus says that he knows them he means the real, close, experiential knowledge. Because of this the response of the sheep is one of total and complete adherence.

ஆயன் ஆடுகளிடையே உள்ள உறவுதான் விவிலியம் சுட்டிக்காட்டும் இறை மனித உறவு. இஸ்ராயேல் மக்கள் வாழ்விலும் இது அடித்தளமாக இருந்தது. இந்த உறவில் ஆழமான> நிறைவான அறிவும் பின்தொடர்தலும் இருந்தது.
