GOSPEL READING: MARK 6:1-6

And they took offense at him.
————————–
The people were prejudiced against him. They heard all the wisdom he spoke and they witnessed all the miracles but they could not accept him as someone because they knew that he had only a home-education. He had not studied under any famous scholars and he had not travelled around to have had different education and experience. They were the eye witnesses of his carpentry work.

He was a home bred man and his home was not in any way seat of wisdom and learning. His relations were all ordinary people and they were all there with them. They looked upon him with contempt. They did not accept his teaching. This would have been worse if he had no relations there. (We do not know where this one is from Jn 9:29)

05.02.2013 FAITH

GOSPEL READING: MARK 5:21-43

“If I but touch his clothes, I shall be cured.”
——————————-
In this passage we see two miracles. One is the raising of the dying daughter of Jairus and the other is the healing of the woman who had the flow of blood for years. In the miracle of the raising of the daughter of Jairus, the witnesses are the parents and the chosen disciples. And in the healing of the flow of blood, no one is the witness except the woman who was healed.

Jairus expresses his faith openly and in front of all. He knelt down and begged for him to come to his house. And in the case of the woman with the flow of blood, the woman did not express her faith openly but thought to herself and expressed it within herself. It was Jesus who told her that her faith had healed her. It is faith that heals whether it is expressed openly or lived secretly. Faith is essential.
