Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MARK 5:1-11

“Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.”

Jesus was followed by a crowd. Crowd was pressing on to him. Crowd was so great that it pushed him into the sea. Jesus started his ministry in Nazareth and had reached Capernaum, the village of Simon. The followers started from Nazareth had reached Capernaum (Jesus had been working miracles all along). He never neglected his teaching ministry. He continued his teaching even after reaching the Lake. Certainly Simon listened to his teaching.

Because Simon had listened to the teaching of Jesus he could not refuse him when he told him to cast the net. Jesus waited for Simon to come back after the catch of fish (he had finished his teaching and probably he was conversing with the crowd that was thinning out). He waited until Simon and his friends returned and then he shocked them by calling them to be his disciples). Simon having listened to him and now having seen the miracle could not but say “Depart from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man.”

இயேசு தான் வளர்ந்த ஊராகிய நாசரேத்திலிருந்து தனது பொதுப்பணியைத் துவங்குகிறார். போதனைகள் புதுமைகள் வழியாக மக்களோடு உறவாடுகிறார். கப்பர்நாகும் வந்து சேர்கிறார். ஒருவாரத்தில் கூட்டம் பெரிதாகிவிடுகிறது. கடல் ஓரத்தில்கூட நிற்க இடமில்லை. படகில் ஏறும் நிலை. அவ்வளவு கூட்டம். போதிக்கிறார். போதனையை கேட்ட சீமோன் கீழ்படிகிறார். புதுமையை கண்டு அஞ்சுகிறார். தன்நிலை உணர்கிறார்; அழைப்பவர் யார் என்று உணர்கிறார்; அதனால்தான் சீடராகிறார்.

GOSPEL READING: MARK 6:30-34

his heart was moved with pity for them,

The apostles had just returned from their mission. They had many things to narrate. They had many things to say, many good things that had happened. And they merited rest. Jesus himself went with them so that the apostles could have a break from the people and the work. Jesus took them to the deserted place where there would not be people crowding around.

But the people came crowding around Jesus; they came even to the deserted place. Jesus saw in them a crowd of sheep running around; running around a deserted place. Sheep should be in the pasture land and not in the deserted place. They are there because there was no shepherd. Jesus was moved with pity.

அவர்கள் மீது பரிவு கொண்டு,

இயேசு சீடர்களைப் பார்த்து சொன்னார்: ‘நீங்கள் பாலைநிலத்திலுள்ள தனிமையான ஓர் இடத்திற்குச் சென்று சற்று ஓய்வெடுங்கள்” என்று. ஆனால் பாலைநிலத்தில் மக்கள் கூட்டம். அவர்கள் ஆயரில்லா ஆடுகளைப்போல் இருந்ததால் அவர் பரிவு கொண்டார். ஆடுகள் பாலைநிலத்தில் இருக்கக்கூடாது@ பசுமையான புல்தரையில் இருக்கவேண்டும். ஆயரில்லாததால் ஆடுகள் என்பதால்தான் அவைகள் பாலைநிலத்தில் உள்ளன. அவைகளுக்கு ஆயன் தேவை.
