Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MARK 1:40-45

Moved with pity, he stretched out his hand, touched him, and said to him, “I do will it. Be made clean.”

Healing has a two way process between tow people. The one who is healed and the one who heals have certain actions done. Their actions have to do something with physical, mind, and will. When these two combine then there is a miracle. Only Jesus who is a god-man is able to identify his actions with that of the one who is to be healed.

The one who is to be healed (here a leper) moves towards the healer; begs him for help; reveals his desire to be healed. The healer is also moved with pity and then he moves towards the sick: stretches out his hand; touches him and reveals his will to heal. When this happens then the healing is immediate (that is the miracle).

இயேசு அவர்மீது பரிவு கொண்டு தமது கையை நீட்டி அவரைத் தொட்டு அவரிடம், ‘நான் விரும்புகிறேன், உமது நோய் நீங்குக!” என்றார்.

குணமளிப்பவரும் குணம் பெறுபவரும் தங்கள் செயல்களில் ஒன்றுபடும்போது அங்கே புதுமை நடக்கிறது. குணம் பெறுபவர் குணமளிப்பவரை நோக்கி செல்கிறார்; குணம் பெற விரும்புகிறார்; மேலும் உதவி வேண்டுகிறார். அதேபோல் குணமளிப்பவரும் குணம் பெறுபவரை நோக்கிச் செல்கிறார்; அவரை தொடுகிறார்; குணமளிக்க விரும்புகிறார். செயல்கள் ஒன்றுபடும் போது (உடனே தொழுநோய் அவரைவிட்டு நீங்க) புதுமை நிகழ்கிறது.

GOSPEL READING Mk 1: 29-39

Rising very early before dawn, he left and went off to a deserted place, where he prayed.

People were coming to Jesus to be healed of their diseases and be cleansed of the evil spirits. People longed to be healthy, complete, and total. Physical health was essential and according to their understanding physical health also was part of the Shalom which God had for them. People were right in longing for this. The disciples were trying to pull Jesus to this ministry completely (“Everyone is looking for you.”).

Jesus was teaching them something which they were late in understanding. Jesus through his life was telling them that union with God and total attachment to God was essential to grant healing. Healing is a divine gift. Through personal and constant and continuous relations with God one can receive this gift.

இயேசு விடியற்காலைக் கருக்கலில் எழுந்து தனிமையான ஓர் இடத்திற்குப் புறப்பட்டுச் சென்றார். அங்கே அவர் இறைவனிடம் வேண்டிக்கொண்டிருந்தார்.

சுகம் பெறுவதற்கும் முழுமை பெறுவதற்கும் மக்கள் இயேசுவிடம் வந்தார்கள்> சீடர்களும் இதே மனநிலையில்தான் இருந்தார்கள் (‘எல்லாரும் உம்மைத் தேடிக்கொண்டிருக்கிறார்கள்”). ஆனால் இயேசு நன்கு அறிந்திருந்தார்: குணமளிக்கும் வரம் இறைவனின் கொடை என்று. இறைவனோடு இனைந்த வாழ்வு, இறைவனை சார்ந்த வாழ்வு (ஜெபித்தல்) ஒன்றுதான் இறைவனிடமிருந்து கொடைகளைப் பெற்றுத்தரும்.
