07.02.2013 REPENTANCE

GOSPEL READING: MARK 6:7-13

So they went off and preached repentance.
——————————–
The content of their preaching was repentance. Men should change their minds and reform their lives as the kingdom of God was approaching. Repentance has meaning only in relation to the kingdom. Change of mind and heart should be in such a way that the person is capable of entering into the kingdom.

Change of life is not for a high thinking life-style. Change is to turn towards God. Jesus was so much passionate towards God that nothing in the world mattered to him in comparison with God. He wanted that the life of any man should revolve around God in every aspect and in every situation.

GOSPEL READING: MARK 6:1-6

And they took offense at him.
————————–
The people were prejudiced against him. They heard all the wisdom he spoke and they witnessed all the miracles but they could not accept him as someone because they knew that he had only a home-education. He had not studied under any famous scholars and he had not travelled around to have had different education and experience. They were the eye witnesses of his carpentry work.

He was a home bred man and his home was not in any way seat of wisdom and learning. His relations were all ordinary people and they were all there with them. They looked upon him with contempt. They did not accept his teaching. This would have been worse if he had no relations there. (We do not know where this one is from Jn 9:29)
