Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 19:3-12

Have you not read that from the beginning the Creator ‘made them male and female’

We do not know exactly what was in the mind of the Pharisees when they questioned Jesus regarding marriage and divorce. Their aim was to trap Jesus o his word. They expected him to argue with Moses which implied that he was not giving any new interpretation to the law. If he argues against Moses then he would be in trouble in front of the people.

Jesus always argued on the side of God. He did not argue on the human situation or condition. For Jesus everything depended on the mind of God and the will of God. He looked at the intention of God. The intention of God was to create man and woman to make a family (unity). Anything that makes one to go against the intention of God was wrong. Human situation will make interpreters like Moses (Because of the hardness of your hearts Moses allowed you to divorce your wives).

வாழ்க்கை போராட்டத்தில் சூழலை வைத்து முடிவுகள் எடுக்கக்கூடாது. ஆனால் பல வேளைகளில் அவ்வாறுதான் நடக்கிறது. (உங்கள் கடின உள்ளத்தின் பொருட்டே உங்கள் மனைவியரை விலக்கிவிடலாம் என்று மோசே உங்களுக்கு அனுமதி அளித்தார்). படைத்த கடவுளின் சித்தம், நோக்கம் கண்டறியப்பட வேண்டும் (ஆனால் தொடக்க முதல் அவ்வாறு இல்லை). எப்போதும் இறை சித்தத்தை, இறை திட்டத்தை கண்டறிய இயேசு சொல்லுகிறார்.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 18:21-19-1

I say to you, not seven times but seventy-seven times.

Forgiveness is the hallmark of Christians. Unforgiving Christian is contradiction. Forgiveness is the outcome of compassion. Compassion is again a Christian virtue. Jesus had compassion on the people and that was what made him associate with the people and he was able to do more miracles.

But to what extend (how many times) should one forgive his brother. This is where all the followers of Jesus reach a breaking point. Each one has his own scale and follows it as he wishes. Like Peter (seven times), each one thinks that he has forgiven completely and to the maximum extend and justifies himself in his own heart. But Jesus, on the other hand, follows totally a different scale (seventy-seven times).

மன்னித்தல் கிறிஸ்தவ பண்புகளில் அடித்தலமான ஒன்று. மன்னிக்காதவன் கிறிஸ்தவன் அல்ல. ஆனால் எத்தனை முறை மன்னிப்பது என்பதுதான் கேள்வி. ஒவ்வொருவரும் தன் சகோதரனை நிறைவாக மன்னிப்பதாக நினைக்கிறான் (நான் எத்தனை முறை அவரை மன்னிக்க வேண்டும்? ஏழு முறை மட்டுமா?). ஆனால் இயேசுவின் எண்ணிக்கை மாறானது. அதுதான் சரியானது.
