Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 9:7-9

Herod was the king. As a man of authority, he wanted his people to be obedient to him. He wanted to be in control of events and people. He had to be in knowledge of everything that was happening in his country. He knew of John the Baptist and his preaching and his activities. Now he was caught up with someone who was saying and doing similar things. So he was perplexed.

Herod and people thought of Jesus as a prophet or someone sent by God. They were not open to see in him the messiah. This knowledge has to be given from heaven through revelation. Each one saw Jesus as he his situation was. Herod was in a peculiar situation: he beheaded John the Baptist because of Herodias and he was aware that he was not right in doing that. So he saw John the Baptist in Jesus.

ஏரோது அதிகாரம் உள்ள அரசன். அரசன் என்ற முறையில் நாட்டு நடப்புகளை அறிந்திருந்தான்@ கவனித்தும் வந்தான். திருமுழுக்கு யோவானை நன்கு தெரிந்திருந்தான் (யோவானின் தலையை நான் வெட்டச் செய்தேனே). யோவானின் போதனைகளைப்போலும் செயல்களைப்போலும் இயேசுவின் வாழ்வு இருந்தது. எனவே இயேசுவில் யோவானைக் காண்கின்றான் ஏரோது.

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 9:1-6

Jesus gave them power and authority over demons and to heal. Power is something from within (it is part of nature so to say) and authority is something external. Jesus, in a sense, changes their nature and gives them also authority over evil of any sort. Jesus makes them his substitutes. He shares with them what he has; and what he has received from the father.

The directions which he gives, go to show that the mission is something urgent and immediate. It is not a leisure trip. They are asked to take nothing with them because they have to finish the work and return back soon. Even when they enter a house they should be aware that their stay is for a short while only, and they should always be ready to be on the move.

வல்லமை என்பது இயல்போடு இனைந்தது. அதிகாரம் என்பது வெளியிலிருந்து கொடுக்கப்படுவது. இயேசு அவர்களது இயல்பை மாற்றி அவர்களுக்கு அதிகாரத்தை கொடுத்து தனது பதிலிகளாக அவர்களை அனுப்புகிறார். அவர்களது பணி அவசரமானது உடனே செய்யப்பட வேண்டியது. எங்கும் காலம் தாழ்த்தக்கூடாது. தொடர்ந்து பணிசெய்து பயணித்துக்கொணடே இருக்கவேண்டும்.
