Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 8:19-21

Jesus always had a crowd around him during his public ministry. They came to listen to him gladly and to be healed by him of their many diseases. He had no time for his own relatives. His relatives also came after him: they came to see him; they came to listen to him because they have heard many things about him. As relatives they were unable to join him.

Jesus was forming a new group of relatives: those who hear the word of God and act accordingly. For Jesus this family was more important than the other. This new family had God as its source; word of God as the way of life; God’s activities as the goal of life (based on the word of God). The new family is based on the word of God. Mary was the first one to hear the word and act accordingly and hence she is the first in the new family and Jesus confirms it in front of the crowd.

இயேசு ஒரு புதிய குடும்பத்தை உருவாக்குகிறார். இந்த குடும்பம் ஊணுடலினால் ஆன ஒன்று அல்ல. மாறாக இறைவார்த்தையால் உருவெடுத்தது. இறைவார்த்தையை ஏற்று> அதை நம்பி> அதன்படி நடப்பவர்தான் இயேசு உருவாக்கும் இந்த புதிய குடும்பத்தின் அங்கத்தினர்கள். அங்கு அவருக்கு ஒரு பெரிய கூட்டமே இருந்தது. மரியா தான் இறைவார்த்தையை ஏற்று> நம்பி> அதன்படி நடந்தவர். எனவே மரியா தான் இப்புதிய குடுத்பத்தின் முதல் நபர். இறையாட்சியின் முதல் குடிமகள்.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 9:9-13

People offer sacrifices to God. Sacrifices are not offered to men. Mercy is shown to human beings. No one can show mercy to God and God does not need the mercy of man to live. Mercy reflects the right relationship between men (what doth the LORD require of thee, but to do justly, and to love mercy, and to walk humbly with thy God? Mic 6:8). God desires that the relationships between men are shown through mercy and they are set right before relationship with God in sacrifice (cf Mt 5:24).

People who consider themselves holy do not in general associate with the sinners. They do not like to pollute their relationship because they want to be holy always in front of God. To be in right relationship with God is a good thing and to be holy is a right thing too. But if holiness leads one to be divisive and exclusive then it is not Godly. Jesus has come to create an inclusive community.

பலிகள் வழியாக மனிதன் கடவுளோடு கொண்டுள்ள உறவை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறான்@ அல்லது உறவை சரி செய்கின்றான். இரக்கம் மனிதன் பிறரோடு கொண்டுள்ள உறவை வெளிப்படுத்துகிறது அல்லது சரிசெய்கிறது. மனித உறவுகள் இரக்கத்தினால் சரிசெய்யப்படுவது> பலிகளினால் இறை-மனித உறவு சரிசெய்யப்படுவதைவிடச் சிறந்தது. மனித சமூகம் அனைவரையும் உள்ளடக்கக் கூடிய ஒன்றாக இருக்கவேண்டும்.
