27.01.2013 WORD OF GOD

Posted under Reflections on January 26th, 2013 by

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 1:1-4; 4:14-21

“Today this scripture passage is fulfilled in your hearing.”
————————————
Jesus applied the text, which he read, to himself. The Jews believed that scripture was the word of God. It was the revealed word of God and not secret. These particular words were revealed by Prophet Isaiah. These were not the words of the past (without having any relevance for the present). God’s words are eternal and they have their message for everyone at anytime of history. Word of God was fulfilled and is fulfilled and will be fulfilled.

These words were fulfilled in Jesus’ entry into public ministry. They were fulfilled in his activities of the kingdom of God. His activities were preaching liberty to the captives; giving sight to the blind; healing to the sick; and all the blessings. Jesus fulfilled the word of God in his life and in his ministry. Every disciple should try to be so.

26.01.2013 MAD

GOSPEL READING: MARK 3: 20-21

“He is out of his mind.”
—————————–
No one was prevented from meeting Jesus or listening to him. The crowd flocked to him. He welcomed them and answered each one according to his need. He was ready to forgo his meal. Those who were engaged in the works of God can easily bear with any inconveniences. They will not miss an opportunity of doing good.

The prophets were called mad people (2 Ki. 9:11). Since Jesus was doing the work of the kingdom and some of the people thought that he was a prophet and so like the prophets of old he was also mad in his dealings. In the context it could also mean that because he was not having his regular meal he would faint and his health would be in danger.
