GOSPEL READING: LUKE 11:42-46

“Teacher, by saying this you are insulting us too.”

Jesus attacks the Pharisees and the scholars. They are good at following the rules and good at giving explanations to the rules according to the times and people. But both Pharisees and the Scholars forget the source of the law and the goal of the law.

Pharisees immerse themselves in the rules so much that they forget God. They forget to love God. The scholars explain the laws to the people so much that they forget the people and forget to help them to practice the laws. They do not assist the people.

‘போதகரே, இவற்றைச் சொல்லி எங்களை இழிவுபடுத்துகிறீர்”

பரிசேயர் சட்டங்களை கடைபிடிக்கிறார்கள். சட்டங்களின் நுணுக்கங்களை படிக்கிறார்கள். படிப்பதிலும் கடைபிடிப்பதிலும் காலத்தை வீணாக்குகிறார்கள் கடவுளை மறந்துவிடுகிறார்கள். அறிஞர்கள் சட்டங்களை விளக்குகிறார்கள் ஆனால் மக்களை மறந்துவிடுகிறார்கள்.

You fools! Did not the maker of the outside also make the inside?

Jesus was friendly with the Pharisees. He was invited by them for dinner and he also accepted the invitation. He was not against the Pharisees as a group. But he criticized those who observed only the rules and did not care for the values. He was so friendly with them that he also was free to criticize them openly.

Pharisees were as ignorant as anyone else there. They were in need of education as everyone else. There were aware of the rules. They had studied the laws. But they did not know the values behind the rules and laws. They had to know the things in its completeness in its totality.

அறிவிலிகளே, வெளிப்புறத்தை உண்டாக்கியவரே உட்புறத்தையும் உண்டாக்கினார் அல்லவா!

பரிசேயர்களும் இயேசுவுக்கு நண்பர்களாய் இருந்திருக்கிறார்கள். இயேசுவும் அவர்களோடு உணவு அருந்தச் சென்றார். அவர்களோடு பழகினார். உறிமையோடு அவர்களை சாடினார். அவர்கள் சட்டங்களை படித்திருந்தார்கள் ஆனால் அந்த சட்டங்கள் சுட்டிக்காட்டும் பண்புகளை அவர்கள் அறியாதிருந்தார்கள்.
