Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 2:13-22

“Destroy this temple and in three days I will raise it up.”

Jesus chose the Passover time to cleanse the temple. The temple would be filled with people and also would be filled with things for sale. He did not want the message to reach just a handful rather he wanted everyone to see and witness. He wanted the message to reach all and he wanted the message to reach in a forceful way. It was a prophetic sign.

Earthly buildings and constructions have their end however holy their function might be. Temple was a place where God dwelt. It was the only abode of God on earth. Being an earthly construction, even that building would have its earthly, historical time for destruction. Physical body has it spiritual components and hence it is spiritual (it will have its time to be raised from death). The true place of worship will always be His body.

கோவில் இறைவனின் உறைவிடம். பாஸ்கா விழாவின்போது மக்கள்கூட்டமும் இருக்கும்; விற்பனைக்கான பொருள்களும் கோவிலில் நிறம்பி இருக்கும். இயேசுவின் போதனை பலரையும் சென்றடைய வேண்டும் என்பதற்காகவே பாஸ்கா விழாவின்போது பேசுகிறார். ஆன்மீகம் சார்ந்த கட்டடமே என்றும் அழியாதது. உயிர் உள்ள (உயிர்ப்பை தன்னுள் கொண்ட; அழியாத) உடலே கோவில்.

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 15:1-10

Rejoice with me because I have found my lost sheep… Rejoice with me because I have found the coin that I lost.

The tax collectors and sinners were coming around Jesus. This could happen because Jesus was approachable and available. At the time of Jesus, there were many leaders who were available but not approachable. They were leaders for the people (available) but they made so many restrictions that the people were not able to approach them. Jesus welcomed them all; and associated with them all.

The method of Jesus was different because he was going after the lost. The lost cannot find their way back (precisely because they were lost). They needed someone to go after them; search for them; find them and bring them back. This was the mission of Jesus and this mission gave joy to him.

என்னோடு மகிழுங்கள்; ஏனெனில் காணாமற்போன என் ஆட்டைக் கண்டுபிடித்து விட்டேன்| … என்னோடு மகிழுங்கள்; ஏனெனில் காணாமற் போன திராக்மாவைக் கண்டுபிடித்துவிட்டேன்

இயேசுவின் பணி காணாமற்போனவற்றை கண்டுபிடிப்பதே. இந்தப் பணியில்தான் மகிழ்ச்சி அடைகிறார் அவருடைய நண்பர்களையும் மகிழ்ச்சி அடையச் சொல்லுகிறார். மக்கள் தன்னிடம் வரவேண்டும் என்று காத்தருக்கவில்லை. மக்களை வரவேற்பது மட்டுமன்று; மக்களை நோக்கிச் சென்று அவர்களோடு உறவுகொண்டு; அவர்களை கடவுளோடும் உறவு கொள்ளச் செய்தார். இதுதான் அவரது பணி; இதுதான் அவரது மகிழ்ச்சி.
