Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 12:39-48

Much will be required of the person entrusted with much, and still more will be demanded of the person entrusted with more.

Jesus was talking about the servants and their duties. The servants should be vigilant always, must be prepared, must be dutiful, watchful and available to the other servants. Peter as usual questions Jesus asking whether this parable was meant for the disciples also.

Jesus’ reply indirectly answered him. This parable was meant for everyone including the disciples. Everyone is entrusted with duty according to his ability. Fidelity to the duty and fulfillment of the duty is what is expected. Expectation depends on the duty. Since it is a duty given the result is also is not only expected but demanded. Responsibility falls on the one who receives the duty.

மிகுதியாகக் கொடுக்கப்பட்டவரிடம் மிகுதியாகவே எதிர்பார்க்கப்படும். மிகுதியாக ஒப்படைக்கப்படுபவரிடம் இன்னும் மிகுதியாகக் கேட்கப்படும்.

இயேசு போதிக்கின்ற போதனைகளும் உவமைகளும் எல்லாருக்குமே. கடவுள் முன்னிலையில் எல்லாருமே பணியாளர்கள். பணியாளர்களுக்கு கடமைகள் கொடுக்கப்படுகின்றன. கடமைகளை நிறைவேற்றுவதில் பணியாளர்கள் பொறுப்புள்ளவர்களாக இருக்கவேண்டும். இதுவே எதிர்பார்க்கப்படுகிறது.

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 12: 35-38

Blessed are those servants whom the master finds vigilant on his arrival.

Working relationship between a master and a servant is dealt with in this passage. The servant should be ever ready. It is said: “Gird your loins and light your lamps”. Since it is late into night (9pm to 12 midnight or 12 midnight to 3 am) the servant should not put on his night dress and turn off the light.

He should be ever vigilant. The master’s return should be the only factor in his mind. The chronological time factor should not in any way disturb him. The master’s return is the only indication of time and only reference of time. His return is THE time and the servant should be ready to receive the master (without considering the time and season and second or third watch)

தலைவர் வந்து பார்க்கும் போது விழித்திருக்கும் பணியாளர்கள் பேறு பெற்றவர்கள்.

தலைவர் பணியாளர் இடையே உள்ள பணி உறவைப் பற்றி பேசுகிறது. தலைவனுக்காக காத்திருக்கும்போது காலமும் நேரமும் முக்கியமல்ல. அது எந்த நேரமாக இருந்தாலும் எந்தப் பொழுதாக இருந்தாலும் தலைவன் வரும் நேரமே ‘காலம், நேரம், பொழுது’ எல்லாம். தலைவன் வரும் நேரத்தைத்தான் கருத்தில் கொள்ள வேண்டும். அதற்காக விழித்திருக்க வேண்டும்.
