Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 16:13-19

Blessed are you, Simon son of Jonah. For flesh and blood has not revealed this to you, but my heavenly Father.

People have different views about Jesus. And their views were based on their experience of Jesus. They always compared their views to some of the Old Testament prophets. Their views were totally biblically based (they spoke of only Jeremiah, Elijah, John the Baptist or one of the prophets).

Peter’s reply was based on a revelation. But this revelation was not from flesh and blood (humanly or earthly experience). The revelation that Peter had, was divinely /heavenly and hence we can say: non-experiential. This revelation was from the Father. This revelation makes Peter blessed and the foundation of the Church. Revelation, acceptance of revelation and proclamation of revelation is important in the kingdom.

மக்கள் தங்கள் அனுபவத்தை (இயேசு) முந்தைய அனுபவங்களோடு ஒப்பிட்டு இயேசுவை திரு முழுக்கு யோவான் என்றும் எரேமியா என்றும் கூறுகிறார்கள். இது அனுபவம் சார்ந்த அறிவு. பேதுருவுக்கு வெளிப்பாட்டில் இயேசுவைப்பற்றிய அறிவு கொடுக்கப்படுகிறது. வெளிப்பாட்டில நிறை அறிவு உள்ளது. அதுவே பேதுருவை இறையாட்சியில் பணிக்கிறது.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 7:21-29

Everyone who listens to these words of mine and acts on them will be like a wise man who built his house on rock.

Anyone who speaks in the name of God or prophesy or invoke God saved. In this passage Jesus speaks of salvation not through profession but through listening to the word. Invocation, prophecy, prayer are all good in themselves but they may not help one to enter into the kingdom.

Only those who discern the will of God and act accordingly or those who listen to the word of God are saved. Listening brings salvation rather than speaking. Listening is one of the important qualities of God. When Cain killed his brother Abel and he thought he has silenced his brother, but God said the blood of your brother cried unto me. God listened to the cry of Abel and he also heard the cry of Israelites in Egypt. Hearing (listening) is the quality of God.

இறைவாக்கினராயிருத்தல் இறைவேண்டல் செய்தல் ஒருவருக்கு மீட்பை கிடைக்கச் செய்யாது. மாறாக இறை சித்தத்தை அறிந்து அதன்படி நடத்தலும் இறைவார்த்தை கேட்டு அதன்படி நடத்தலுமே மீட்பை கொடுக்கும். பிறருக்கு செவிமடுத்தல் இறை குணங்களில் ஒன்று.
