Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 25:1-13

Since the bridegroom was long delayed, they all became drowsy and fell asleep. At midnight, there was a cry, ‘Behold, the bridegroom! Come out to meet him!’

Kingdom of heaven is like a wedding feast (celebration) and the main feature in this celebration is meeting the bridegroom. All the other aspects of the celebration are not mentioned in this story (aspects like wedding meal etc). Here the main event is meeting the bridegroom. The bridegroom is delaying in coming. His delay is long. His arrival is at midnight (no wedding celebration will begin at midnight).

Those who came to receive the bridegroom were all tired and fell asleep. They were all the same in this (falling asleep). The wise ones were prepared for the delay. Their lamps were burning as the others’. The foolish ones were ready for a long delay. They had brought a little oil that could go for a short time only. The wise ones were prepared for any length of delay.

மணமகன் வரக் காலந்தாழ்த்தவே அனைவரும் தூக்க மயக்கத்தால் உறங்கிவிட்டனர். நள்ளிரவில், ~இதோ மணமகன் வருகிறார். அவரை எதிர்கொள்ள வாருங்கள்| என்ற உரத்த குரல் ஒலித்தது.

விண்ணரசு ஒரு திருமணத்திற்கு ஒப்பாகும். மணமகனை எதிர்கொள்ளுதல்தான் முக்கியமான நிகழ்வு. மணமகனின் வருகைதான் காலம் தாழ்த்தி நடக்கிறது. எவ்வளவு காலம் காத்திருக்க வேண்டும் என்பதுதான் கேள்வி. முன்மதி உடையவர்கள் எவ்வளவு காலமும் காத்திருக்கவும் தயார்நிலையில் இருக்கிறார்கள். அறிவிலிகள் குறைந்த காலமே காத்திருக்க தயாராய் இருக்கிறார்கள். மணமகனை எதிர்கொள்ள எவ்வளவு காலமும் காத்திருக்க தாயார்நிலையில் இருப்பவர்கள்தான் உண்மை நண்பர்கள்.

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 24: 42-51

Blessed is that servant whom his master on his arrival finds doing so. Amen, I say to you, he will put him in charge of all his property.

Master – servant relationship is stressed in this passage. Master does not stay in the house always. He is on a journey. The day of his return is not known. But his return is definite. He might come at anytime (had known the hour of night when the thief was coming, he would have stayed awake).

The servant should stay awake. He should also go about doing his job and getting the job done by others. Faithful and prudent servant will be rewarded with more responsibility. Job done is more jobs to be done. The wicked servant will be punished for his infidelity.

தலைவர் வந்து பார்க்கும்போது தம் பணியைச் செய்துகொண்டிருப்பவரே அப்பணியாளர். அவர் பேறு பெற்றவர். அவரைத் தம் உடைமைகளுக்கெல்லாம் அதிகாரியாக அவர் அமர்த்துவார் என உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்.

தலைவர் பணியாளர் உறவு பேசப்படுகிறது. தலைவர் பணியின் நிமித்தம் பயணிக்கிறார். பயணம் எப்போது முடியும் என்று தெரியாது. தலைவர் எப்போது திரும்புவார் என்று தெரியாது. பணியாளர் எப்போதும் தயார்நிலையில் இருக்கவேண்டும். உண்மையான பணியாளன் பேறுபெற்றவன். பணியின் நிறைவு அதிக பணி செய்வதே.
