Breaking the Word

GOSPEL  READING:  MATTHEW 5:43-48

 

Israel was chose to be a light to the nations and salt of the earth. They were not chosen to be the only special people of God. They were chosen for a mission (to be light and salt Mt 5: 13; 14). Instead Israel separated themselves from the others and even made themselves enemy of others in the name of God.

 

Jesus addresses this situation with a new sort of justice: creative, healing, restorative justice.  Jesus is teaching them a different way to be human. Jesus is asking them to reflect God, who is generous, in these situations. It is impossible. But Jesus did it. That is why he is the good news.

உலகிற்கு ஒளியாக> உப்பாக வாழ அழைக்கப்பட்டவர்கள் இஸ்ராயேல் மக்கள். ஆனால் அவர்கள் தங்களையே பிரித்து ஒதுங்கி பகைவர்கis உறுவாக்கி வாழ்ந்து வந்தார்கள். இயேசு சீடர்களிடம் புதுமையான நீதியை> இறைவனை பிரதிபலிக்கின்ற வாழ்வை> புதுவிதமான மனிதத்தை முன்வைக்கிறார். இதுதான் நற்செய்தி. இதுதான் கிறிஸ்து.

Jesus deals with anger in this passage. Anger is at the core of most of the evil in the world. When there is anger in a person then he is little less than a fully human person. Angry man puts himself on a pedestal over against the other. He has to come down (abandoning the position of superiority). Genuine humans do not live on pedestal. They have their feet on the ground (on a level with everyone else).

 

Jesus proposes two practical suggestions for angry people. He says: be reconciled and make friends. They sound simple but hugely difficult. For Jesus reconciliation takes precedence even over liturgy. Friendship will take one away from court, jail and losing money. This is certainly impossible until we look at Jesus. For Jesus this was possible on the cross.

கோபத்தைப்பற்றி இயேசு பேசுகிறார். கோபம் தீமைகளுக்கு அடித்தளமாக இருக்கிறது. கோபப்படுபவன் மனிதநிலையிலிருந்து குறைந்துவிடுகிறான். கோபப்படுபவன் தன்னை உயர்நிலையில்வைத்து மற்றவர்களை கீழ்நோக்கிப் பார்க்கிறான். உண்மை மனிதர்கள் தங்களை மற்றவர்களோடு சமநிலையில் வைத்துப் பார்ப்பார்கள். கோபப்படுபவர்கள் எடுக்கவேண்டிய முயற்ச்சிகள்: ஒப்புரவு, நட்பு. இவை எளியதாக தோன்றினாலும் மிகமிக கடினமானவை. இயேசுவால் இது முடிந்தது.
