Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 18:1-8

Then he told them a parable about the necessity for them to pray always without becoming weary.

In this passage Jesus does not teach them to pray or does not teach them about what they should say in their time of prayer. He does not give importance to the content of prayer. The words that we use or recite are not important in prayer rather the attitude that one has is important in prayer.

Like the widow in the parable, in prayer one should have the attitude of keep on praying. Belief that prayers will be heard is more important. It is this faith that will make the one who prays to continue and to keep on praying. Faith in prayer is more important.

அவர்கள் மனந்தளராமல் எப்பொழுதும் இறைவனிடம் மன்றாட வேண்டும் என்பதற்கு இயேசு ஓர் உவமை சொன்னார்.

என்ன ஜெபிக்க வேண்டும் எப்படி ஜெபிக்க வேண்டும் என்று இயேசு கற்றுக் கொடுக்கவில்லை. மாறாக ஜெபிக்கும்போது ஒருவர் கொண்டிருக்க வேண்டிய மனநிலையைப்பற்றித்தான் பேசுகிறார். ஜெபத்தில் நம்பிக்கை வைக்கவேண்டும். ஜெபம் கேட்க்கப்படும் என்ற நம்பிக்கை வேண்டும். அதனால் மனந்தளராமல் எப்பொழுதும் இறைவனிடம் மன்றாட வேண்டும். ஏனென்றால் ஜெபம் என்பது நாம் இறைவனோடு கொண்டுள்ள உறவுதான்.

so it will be in the days of the Son of Man

In the Gospel of Luke Jesus always warns his listeners that a great destruction is awaiting because they did not heed his words. Now he uses some apocalyptic language to communicate the same message. In the Prophecy of Daniel (chapter 7) the one like the son of man will be vindicated by God after suffering.

Here ‘the days of the son of man’ are the days in which this figure, representing God’s true people, is finally vindicated after suffering. And that vindication will take the form of the destruction of the city, and the temple. As in the days of Noah and Lot people have not heeded to the message of Jesus and hence the destruction will be as severe as in those days.

வரஇருக்கும் துன்பங்களைப் பற்றி இயேசு பேசுகிறார். மானிட மகனுடைய காலம் என்பது துன்பங்களுக்குபின் இறைவன் அவருக்குக் கொடுக்கும் வெற்றியாகும். ஆனால் மக்கள் இதை உணரமாட்டார்கள். அவர்கள் நோவாவின் காலத்தில் நடந்ததுபோலும் லோத்தின் காலத்திலும் நடந்ததுபோலும் நடந்து கொள்வார்கள்.
