Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: LUKE 18:35-43

“Have sight; your faith has saved you.”

The news about Jesus has reached far and wide. The news travels before him. Jesus is making his journey towards Jerusalem and he has not travelled before in these areas. But the news about him has reached. Even the blind people have heard about his healing ministry. The news about him reach the poor and the sick.

The blind man knew the identity of Jesus (son of David) and calls out to him for mercy. Those who travel with Jesus (a crowd) always intimidate the needy to approach Jesus. But Jesus eyes and ears are always open to the needy. He is very clear about his target group for whom he has come. What Jesus expects from the people is faith in God.

இயேசுவின் பெயரும் புகழும் அவருக்கு முன்னே சென்று கொண்டிருக்கிறது. அவரைப்பற்றி குருடரும் கேள்விப்பட்டிருக்கின்றனர். அதேபோல் இயேசுவின் பார்வையும் செவியும் ஏழைகள், நோயாளிகள் பக்கம் திரும்பியுள்ளது. அவர் எதிர்பார்ப்பது நம்பிக்கை (விசுவாசம்) ஒன்றே.

GOSPEL READING: MARK 13:24-32

But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.

Man is worried about the last days and he is even frightened of the last days. Created beings had a beginning and they will have an end. It is natural law that material thing decay and get destroyed. Anyone who believes in creation will necessarily accept the last days. Man cannot be eternal on earth (creation stories of the Bible explain these).

But when these things will happen is the question that man is faced with. Many false prophets have prophesied about the last days (they even fixed the dates and the hour) but they are gone (died) and the created world continues. Jesus has beautifully answered that only the Father knows the day and the hour. Earth quakes, Tsunami, Cyclones are only telling us that the created world is constantly facing the destruction and this is also a continuous process. We need to believe in the creator.

படைக்கப்பட்ட அனைத்தும் முடிவை, அழிவை எதிர்கொள்ளவேண்டும். இதுதான் இயற்கை நியதி. படைத்தவன் கடவுள் என்று நம்புவோரும் படைப்புக் கதைகளின் விளக்கங்களும் இதைத்தான் கூறுகின்றன. இந்த அழிவும் ஒரு தொடர் நிகழ்வாக புயல், சுனாமி போன்றவைகள் வழியாக நடந்து கொண்டே இருக்கின்றன. இறுதி நாளைப்பற்றி தந்தையை தவிர வேறு யாருக்கும் தெரியாது. படைத்தவனை நம்புவோம்.
