GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 17: 22-27

“The Son of Man is to be handed over to men, and they will kill him, and he will be raised on the third day.”

Jesus was aware of what was going to happen to him in Jerusalem. It was not going to be a pleasant surprise to him and his disciples. Yet he was constantly reminding his disciples of what was going to happen (three times he reminded them). The things that were going to happen to him did not in any way deter him from proceeding towards his goal.

Though he was going to be rejected and killed, yet he wanted to be faithful to the rules of the society. He did not want to offend them. They were trying to find fault with him and exclude him from the community; he in his turn wanted to be faithful to the community by fulfilling the little rules.

‘மானிட மகன் மக்களின் கையில் ஒப்புவிக்கப்படவிருக்கிறார். அவர்கள் அவரைக் கொலை செய்வார்கள்; ஆனால் அவர் மூன்றாம் நாள் உயிருடன் எழுப்பப்படுவார்”.

தன் வாழ்வின் முடிவை அறிந்திருந்த இயேசு அதிலிருந்து அஞ்சி பயந்து ஓடவில்லை. மாறாக அதைநோக்கிச் செல்கிறார். இந்த பயணத்தில் அவர் சிறு ஒழுங்கை கூட பின்பற்றாமல் வாழ்வதில்லை. தேவைஇல்லை என்று அறிந்திருந்தும் அதை செய்கிறார். (அப்படியானால் குடிமக்கள் இதற்குக் கட்டுப்பட்டவரல்ல. ஆயினும் நாம் அவர்களுக்கு தடையாய் இருக்கக் கூடாது.)

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 6:41-51

Amen, amen, I say to you, whoever believes has eternal life. I am the bread of life.

The Jews were caught between visible reality and the invisible reality; between human conditions and the divine conditions; between the human relations and the divine origin etc. They began to murmur about Jesus because they could not accept the divine origin of Jesus. Their eyes could see Jesus as the son of Joseph but their faith was not able to Jesus the son of God.

They believed in God and they acknowledged the activities of God in Exodus. They were celebrating this God in Passover and in fact they accepted God in the past. This God was also present here and now. He is present in Jesus and he is doing the same mighty works in and through Jesus. Their faith was so weak that they were not able to see God in Jesus. Only those who believe that Jesus has come down from the father have eternal life.

உறுதியாக உங்களுக்குச் சொல்கிறேன்: என்னை நம்புவோர் நிலைவாழ்வைக் கொண்டுள்ளனர். வாழ்வுதரும் உணவு நானே.

யூதர்கள் கடவுளை நம்பினார்கள். கடவுள் வரலாற்றில், இயற்கையில் செயல்பட்டார் என்பதையும் நம்பினார்கள். இதை பிறருக்கு வெளிப்படுத்தினார்கள். கடந்தகால நிகழ்வுகளில் கடவுளைக் கண்ட மக்கள் நிகழ்காலத்தில், இன்றைய நிகழ்வுகளில், இயேசுவில் கடவுளை காண மறுக்கிறார்கள். இன்றைய நிகழ்வுகளை, இயற்கை நிகழ்வுகளாக காண்கிறார்கள் (இவர் யோசேப்பின் மகனாகிய இயேசு அல்லவா?); இறைநிகழ்வுகளாக அல்ல (விண்ணகத்திலிருந்து இறங்கி வந்த வாழ்வு தரும் உணவு நானே).
