Breaking the Word

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 23: 1-12

For they preach but they do not practice.

The Scribes and the Pharisees preach to the people. They have taken the place of Moses. Moses was the one who preached the commandments of the Lord. People observed the laws of Moses very strictly. Jesus himself upholds the teaching of Moses. At the transfiguration Moses was one of those who appeared to Jesus as the disciples watched.

There is now a difference between Moses and the present day teachers. Moses practiced what he preached. The present day teachers only preach. They took the honour of being a teacher. They liked to be received as teachers and treated as teachers. Now the people have only one teacher and that is Jesus himself (new Moses).

மோசே சட்டங்களின் துவக்கமாகவும் விளக்கமாகவும் இருந்தார். மறைநூல் அறிஞரும் பரிசேயரும் மோசேயின் அதிகாரத்தைக் கொண்டு போதித்து வந்தனர். ஆனால் அவர்கள் வாழ்ந்து காட்டவில்லை. இயேசு ஒருவர்தான் இன்றைய மோசே. அவர் போதித்தும் போதிப்பதை வாழ்ந்தும் காட்டுகிறார். நீங்கள் ஆசிரியர் எனவும் அழைக்கப்பட வேண்டாம். ஏனெனில் கிறிஸ்து ஒருவரே உங்கள் ஆசிரியர்.

GOSPEL READING: JOHN 1:45-51

“Here is a true Israelite. There is no duplicity in him.”

Nathanael expressed his knowledge openly. And whatever he heard about, he challenged. Jesus called him a true Israelite. Jesus admired him. Jesus liked the character of Nathanael. He was a man who expressed his feelings and challenged the opinions of the others.

When Jesus expressed more than want a man could see and do, immediately Nathanael said you are the Son of God. Nathanael realized that Jesus was more than any ordinary person. Nathanael accepted that extraordinary powers are from God and only God can give to others. Nathanael is person who sees the natural things and ordinary things as they are; and sees the extraordinary things as of Divine origin.

‘இவர் உண்மையான இஸ்ரயேலர், கபடற்றவர்”

இயேசு நத்தனியேலை உண்மையான இஸ்ரயேலர், கபடற்றவர் என்று கூறுகிறார். தன் மனதில் உள்ளதை அப்படியே பேசினார்; பிறர் பேசுவதை கேள்விகேட்கிறார் (உண்மையை அறிந்து கொள்ள). சாதாரண நிகழ்வுகளை அப்படியே ஏற்றுக் கொள்கிறார். இயல்புக்கு அப்பாற்பட்டதை (நல்லவைகளை) இறைவனிடமிருந்து வருவதாக ஏற்றுக்கொள்கிறார்.
