GOSPEL READING: LUKE 9:28b-36

went up the mountain to pray.

Jesus always goes out of his place and surrounding to pray. Prayer is a movement away from oneself or out of oneself. He went up the mountain to pray. Prayer is also an upward movement. When one goes for prayer he has to dislodge himself from the earthly realities and also from the reality of himself. It is totally a journey towards the Other. It is a movement from the rest of creation to the creator.

When this happens then prayer is a God experience and it is a transforming experience. Transformation is so intense that in it there is a change in appearance and even in the surrounding (clothing). Before going for prayer what one has left behind (oneself and the things around) gets transformed during prayer. This transformation is the indication or sign of meeting the heavenly persons (Moses and Elijah) and God himself.

இயேசு வேண்டுவதற்காக தன் சூழலை விட்டுவிட்டு ஏன் தன்னையே விட்டுவிட்டு செல்லுகிறார். ஜெபம் என்பது தன்னைவிட்டு வெளியே செல்லுகிற, தன்னைச் சுற்றியுள்ள உலகைவிட்டு மேல்நோக்கிய ஒரு பயணம் (மலைமீது ஏறுதல்). இந்த பயணத்தின் நிறைவுதான் இறைஅனுபவம். இந்த அனுபவம் ஒரு மாற்றத்தை கொடுக்கும். அந்த மாற்றம் அவரையும் அவரது சூழலையும் மாற்றும். (அவரது முகத்தோற்றம் மாறியது; அவருடைய ஆடையும் வெண்மையாய் மின்னியது. மோசே, எலியா என்னும் இருவர் அவரோடு பேசிக் கொண்டிருந்தனர்.)

GOSPEL READING: MATTHEW 5:43-48

Do not the pagans do the same?

Christianity is something more than humanity. Human tendency and natural inclination is to love those who love us. This is done by everyone and everywhere. There is nothing meritorious about this. The Jews hated the publicans and even they were better examples of love of their friends and neighbours.

Christianity poses a series of questions with regard to our life. We are Christians today because God has done more to us. We have received more grace from God and the glory of God is turned more to us than to others. What do we do more than others? What excelling thing do we do? What is the distinctive action of ours that show that we are Christians? Everyone in the world returns good for good. Christians should render good for evil. It is the duty of Christians to desire, and aim at, and press toward perfection in grace and holiness.

கிறிஸ்துவம் மனிதத்தை மிஞ்சவேண்டும். பொதுவாக மனிதர்கள் தங்கள் நண்பர்களை, உறவினர்களை அன்பு செய்கிறார்கள். கிறிஸ்தவனின் அறவாழ்வு தந்தையாம் கடவுளைப்போல் இருக்க வேண்டும். தீமைக்கு, தீமையில் நன்மை விளைவிப்பது கடவுள் தன்மை. கிறிஸ்தவன் அவ்வாறு இருக்க வேண்டும்.
